Historia
Vega Jones escapes an abusive relationship with nothing but her two-month-old baby and the van she grew up in. Her destination is a small Ohio town her late vagabond mother left years ago. It’s one full of nobodies, her mother warned. That makes it the ideal refuge for Vega to lie low, feel safe, and maybe learn more about a past her mother never spoke of.

voice performance pulled me into the story
Revisado: 02-18-23
I could listen to Kay read all day. Usually it is very hard for me to stay focused on the story bc mind wanders when reader drones on. Every minute was engaging. The story was compelling. Characters vivid. I didn't want it to end.

Historia
Amelia Peabody embarks on her first Egyptian adventure armed with unshakable self-confidence, a journal for her thoughts, and, of course, a sturdy umbrella. On her way, she rescues Evelyn Barton-Forbes, who has been "ruined" and abandoned on the streets of Rome by her lover. With a typical disregard for convention, Amelia promptly hires her fellow countrywoman as a companion and takes her to Cairo, where strange visitations and a botched kidnapping convince Amelia that there is a plot afoot to harm Evelyn.

What an absolute delight
Revisado: 02-14-23
Reminds me of Hepburn & Tracy meets Jewel of the Nile. This book is very entertaining and very well performed. It was an absolute surprise how good it is. If you had told me it was written in 1885 I would’ve absolutely believe that. I am English lit major. You could have fooled me. The story is amusing, the characters are very well drawn and appealing, and the writing is incredibly funny when you least expect it. It was absolutely brilliant. I’m looking at other works from this author. I hope they impress as much as this one did.

Revisado: 02-12-23
Wow. Really bad. Characters I didn’t care about. Absurd and derivative premise. Undeveloped nonsensical themes. Not even scary. It was a big jumble of ideas that needed major editing. Ugh….

Historia
As the ash and chaos from Mount Rainier’s eruption swirled and finally settled, the story of the Greenloop massacre has passed unnoticed, unexamined...until now. The journals of resident Kate Holland, recovered from the town’s bloody wreckage, capture a tale too harrowing - and too earth-shattering in its implications - to be forgotten. In this audiobook, Max Brooks brings Kate’s extraordinary account to light for the first time, faithfully reproducing her words alongside his own extensive investigations into the massacre and the legendary beasts behind it.

Excruciatingly rare talent
Revisado: 10-06-21
Have listened to SO many audio books with high reviews that were in fact...utter garbage. THIS novel is on another level. I would put this author in the same league with Coleson Whitehead, Maya Angelou, Willa Cather, CormacMcCarthy, and Alice Walker. This one MUST be nominated for the Pulitzer or equivalent award. Anything Rivers Solomon publishes will be in my collection forever! <For the record I do not remember ever giving 5/5 stars for every category >

Historia
Roan West was born with an extraordinary gift: he can relive memories across centuries and glean history first-hand. A highly skilled psychometrist, Roan is able to perceive the past of any object he touches. He has spent his life as a voyeur, using his talents to find and sell valuable antiques, but his quiet life in New Orleans is about to change. Stuart, a fellow pyschometrist and Roan's close friend, has just unearthed several "ooparts": out-of-place artifacts that challenge recorded history....

Opened up a whole new world for me
Revisado: 03-31-21
The subjects woven into the story and the obviously extensive research that went into it are utterly impressive. Liberties taken with omniscient point of view are rather egregious but it is legitimized by the premise. All in all VERY entertaining. I would rank this as BETTER than the Da Vinci Code.

Historia
In the summer of 1937, Amelia Earhart is the most famous woman in the world - a record-breaking pilot, a best-selling author, and a modern woman shattering the glass ceiling in the early days of aviation. And then she vanishes. In Tampa, Florida, 15-year-old Lizzie Friedlander spends her afternoons glued to her father’s radio, tapping into the enormity of a world she longs to travel. Lizzie can hardly believe her ears when she picks up a radio signal from a faraway source that sets her heart racing: “Amelia Earhart calling SOS!”

Historia
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

This is the kind of novel you would find in Oprah's Book Club. somebody send it to her! SO well written. Beautiful rendition. Fascinating historical context and subjects I have never heard of. Wonderful characters. I don't usually give books as gifts but this is going on my Christmas list for people I give to. Tremendous!
