The start of this book was very promising. But the bulk of the book was trope after trope. I kept thinking “this is the same man who wrote THE STAND, Shawshank, the Green Mile???”

If you’re just looking for a book to keep you occupied, this will do. If you’re on a quest for greatness…keep scrolling.

This is a fantastic story. Ralph Cosham is the great grandmaster of all audiobook narrators. I am working my way through his entire catalog and stumbled upon this gem. With over 300 books in my audible library, this is an easily a top 20 story. I would rank it in the top five must reads for all developing young men.

I have over 350 titles in my Audible library and this narrator is among the worst I’ve ever heard. His timing is horrible, like he struggles to even read. It’s crazy that King’s book have giants like Grover Gardener read some of his books and then this guy shows up to read this title. He does good enough character voicing, but falls right back into mistakes in predictable, easy passages. If you’re practiced enough on this platform to appreciate the difference good narration makes, DON’T GET THIS BOOK.

This book was just ok enough for me to not quit on it. It read like a 20 hour long last 5 minutes if a Scooby Do episode when they figure out the identity of the criminal. Just silly. The male narrator was decent. The female was barely passable. I mean, if you wanna kill some time with an ok book, this is ok. If you’re interested in truly great books, this isn’t one.

There are other versions of this book available. Don’t get this one. The narrator does this classic absolutely no justice. Audible needs to pull this version. The narrator is so, so bad. He struggles throughout and it’s a painful listen. I can’t believe it even got released.

First off Geoffrey Howard IS Ralph Cosham, same guy. The man is the best audiobook narrator of all time and his reading of this incredible story is a masterpiece.

This is a mind blowing tale. You won’t believe it. But it’s true and I become obsessed with expeditions of this grand era as a result. You’ll love this one.

I listen to 25-30 books as year. But I don’t remember the last that was as lovely, masterfully read (by my favorite narrator Ralph Cosham), and endearing as this. My goodness, what a masterpiece of a story. Near the end, that sadness book lovers know so well, when a soul stirring book nears its end, set full upon me. Just marvelous. Marvelous.

I read the reviews and saw all the negative comments about the narrator going in. They had me nervous. But I soon realize he’s the same guy who did such an amazing job reading Hemingway’s For Whom the Bell Tolls and I loved his performance. I settle in and got into the story, which was magnificent.

I was born in 1970. Over the years, I’ve seen bits and pieces of the movie, but never watched it all the way through. I finished the book yesterday, and watched the movie last night. So glad I did it that way. The book is full of tons of great, rich backstory on the characters. As King always is, the writing is superb.

I found the book to be way more scary than the movie. Jack Torrance doesn’t want to go crazy. He doesn’t want to hurt his wife and son. And you get a front row seat to the battle within. You develop empathy for the man. And, as with all books that truly scare you, it’s that empathy that makes you wonder if you’d go crazy under the same circumstances. In the movie, you don’t really get that same experience. You’re always kind scared of Jack. You don’t get to have that draw, that affection or heart for the man, mixed with that fear as he unravels.

Anyway, awesome experience listening to this amazing book…then treating yourself to the movie for desert.

I used to think Charles Dickens was the guy who wrote A Christmas Carole and some books. Now I know Charles Dickens was a guy who wrote some AMAZING books and also wrote a solid holiday play. This version of Great Expectations is fabulous! So, so good.

I share the opinion of so many. Awesome book. But the recoding was confusing because they kept switching from a voice actor to the main narrator doing Baron Harrkonin’s voice. It made it really hard to figure out who the character was. It was like the voice actor quit during recording and the main narrator just took over half way through. It was a distraction. Otherwise, it was a great production

If you saw this movie as i a kid in 1984 like i did, and though it was just weird, give the book a try. It’s a GREAT story in this form.
