Historia
The epic and highly anticipated conclusion to the listener-favorite series that had countless Audible listeners (and employees) hooked from the very first Bob - featuring, as always, a flawless performance from the inimitable Ray Porter. Being a sentient spaceship really should be more fun. But after spreading out through space for almost a century, Bob and his clones just can't stay out of trouble. They've created enough colonies so humanity shouldn't go extinct.

Historia
It's America in 1962. Slavery is legal once again. The few Jews who still survive hide under assumed names. In San Francisco, the I Ching is as common as the Yellow Pages. All because some twenty years earlier the United States lost a war - and is now occupied by Nazi Germany and Japan.

the dialog felt unnatural. the characters unbelievable. too many elements that seemed important to the story were glossed over while seemingly trivial elements explored in detail. I just didn't care for it

The secrets to eternal life are hidden within the book he protects - the Book of Abraham the Mage. It's the most powerful book that has ever existed, and in the wrong hands, it will destroy the world. And that's exactly what Dr. John Dee plans to do when he steals it. There is one hope. If the prophecy is true, Sophie and Josh Newman have the power to save everyone. Now they just have to learn to use it.

Bland and Canned
Revisado: 08-07-13
What disappointed you about The Alchemyst?
uninteresting
What was most disappointing about Michael Scott’s story?
story was flat, and characters lacked substance. The premise was so broad and oversimplified that I could not suspend disbelief long enough to care. The realm and characters tried to be to much.
What didn’t you like about Denis O'Hare’s performance?
He did what he could with the material at hand. Not a bad actor, wouldn't mind hearing him read a good book.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Alchemyst?
Cut the vegetarian vampire warrior elf princess schtick. That character alone sums up the entire problem with the story, everything trying to be everything.
Any additional comments?
A fantasy adventure needs a little more substance than 'Everything mythological is real' it is too convenient and a bit stupid.

Historia
Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk is a novel made up of stories: twenty-three of them, to be precise. Twenty-three of the most horrifying, hilarious, mind-blowing, stomach-churning tales you'll ever encounter, sometimes all at once. They are told by people who have answered an ad headlined "Writers' Retreat: Abandon Your Life for Three Months", and who are led to believe that here they will leave behind all the distractions of "real life" that are keeping them from creating the masterpiece that is in them.

well written but fowl
Revisado: 09-11-05
well written, well narrated, but offensive in its graphic details and language describing child molestation. Don't know what else I could say without dragging my moral views into it, so I will end with a little quote. "When you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you" and this story plunges wide eyes in and stares it down.

So good I didn?t mind the weak narration
Revisado: 09-11-05
The only negative part of this title I think listeners need to be aware of is the weak narration. The reader uses little inflection, then suddenly breaks into weird accents many of which are inappropriate to the nationality of the character he is portraying. That having been said I was so taken by the story and the history that I honestly didn't mind.
