I think the story has become much different then the first book, I don't like it as much, but I appreciate it evolving as opposed to rehashing the same mechanism over and over till its boring. That said this phase 4 of the world of Roshar is still delightful and interesting.

I feel that some of the characters epic cross road decisions were a bit overdone; I almost felt like I was watching one of the classic chains of react scenes in a Japanese anime. I also felt it was not at all subtle how he tried to compare their person struggles to one's we normal people have to face every day. That said, I don't really find it to the point of being a fault, just not my favorite flavor, and we'll worth a 5/5.

I'm also happy to say that I feel the audio readers have improved on their handling of the final 2 books. I critiqued the first one, and was disappointed in the amount of errors they made. I think this field could be massively improved upon, but if I compare their work in this book, to others in their field, they earned a solid 5/5.

The book is easily one of the best books I've read, with my only complaint being that the more particular plot hooks are not overly original, and (most) of the violence is very rated G. Even those minor critiques are more subjective preference, and less a shortcomings on the writers part.

My honest complaint is with the readers. They do a better job then most, but they keep changing characters voices and accents. Some characters from the same lands have different accents. I greatly appreciate the effort they went through to give the characters unique voices and accents. I just wish they didn't make these mistakes. To be fair it probably bothers me WAY more than it should.

If I am completely honest, I would not have finished this if it was not a FR book, and was tied to the core plot of that timeline. It wasn't overall awful, and was an improvement from the first book, but I just felt that the characters where a little too routine, or binary. I struggle to explain it explicitly, but I felt like I understood the common arc type they represented, but their ethical struggles or developments just came across as grade school level morality with a child's level of contemplating. Aliisa's struggle with her family relationship is decent, but I really just expected more.

As for the performance, I just can't take to the accent, especially since the characters already have established accents. A little imagination can fix that, but I still dislike it. Also, a felt a LOT of the inflections where done wrong. There are point where the author directly wrote effesizers like "he said off handedly " and the reader will speak it with a completely different emfesis.
