Historia
Among all the early Iron Age people from the Near East who inherited the geopolitical vacuum of power left by the Sea Peoples invasions, the Phrygians are perhaps one of the most misunderstood. They built a powerful and wealthy kingdom, but were overshadowed by their more powerful and wealthier neighbors, the Lydians.

interesting but short
Revisado: 09-11-24
While the historical story is interesting, there are not a lot of detailed explanations as it is a little over an hour long. Now the bad: I am not sure but it feels like this was read by AI or a text to speech program. If it was read by a person, they either did not believe in extra takes or were unaware of their mistakes. There were many mispronounced words. Weirdly, the mispronunciations were not the names of ancient cities or peoples but were words like "cartographers".

Historia
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night. But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway - a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors.

Enjoyable enough fantasy/magic book
Revisado: 08-26-21
This book could have been so much better. There is mystery and intrigue, romance, and a fantasy circus description. My first major problem with this book is the way it bounces around through time. Maybe it is easier to tell when reading the book but when listening, the book skips back and forth over decades. It feels like each chapter required me to concentrate on details (like the age of a cat) to try and figure out when it was happening. The problem lies with the fact that the bouncing around does not contribute to the story at the end. The narration was good and I enjoyed the book well enough. It is just frustrating to know this book could have been amazing.

Historia
Logen Ninefingers, infamous barbarian, has finally run out of luck. Caught in one feud too many, he's on the verge of becoming a dead barbarian - leaving nothing behind him but bad songs, dead friends, and a lot of happy enemies. Nobleman, dashing officer, and paragon of selfishness, Captain Jezal dan Luthar has nothing more dangerous in mind than fleecing his friends at cards and dreaming of glory in the fencing circle. But war is brewing, and on the battlefields of the frozen North they fight by altogether bloodier rules.

Good book but expect to need to read further books
Revisado: 08-23-21
At first, I was furious at this narrator choice. "They chose a narrator with a lisp. What were they thinking?" Then I found out one of the characters had missing teeth (Sorry for the spoiler, hopefully you will still be able to enjoy the book). The other characters have their own distinctive voices. It is impressive to hear the shift between characters.
The story is good, but focuses mainly on character building. This is not bad, but there is no feeling of conclusion at the end of the book.( I have not read the other books, so I do not know if it continues throughout the series. ) I will say that it takes a very long time to get a description of some of the enemies (often called "flat tops"), and that is frustrating. Eventually, you end with a lot of story arcs but no main story. Certainly, the end feels abrupt. I enjoyed it enough that I will read the next one.

Historia
Raze is "just" a lowly Gearblin chained to the quest-giver desk at the worst (and only) arcade in town. And that’s a problem for her. It means that she’s a Non-Participating Citizen, someone who can’t see her stats nor make opposed rolls against Heroes. It’s why her life’s worth less than the vendor trash she doles out. The old-timers swear it didn’t used to be like this; their issues only began once RNGesus went AFK a thousand years ago, leaving the questionably blessed Heroes to conquer everything without consequence.

A fun semi-fantasy thriller
Revisado: 10-25-18
I enjoyed the story, but loved the reader so much that I will try to find more books he has read. The story does flash back and forth a bit that makes sense at the end, but occasionally does not make sense for a few seconds because we do not hear the chapter splits.

On location in Boston, bad-boy actor Jumbo Nelson is accused of the rape and murder of a young woman. From the start the case seems fishy, so the Boston PD calls on Spenser to investigate. Things don't look so good for Jumbo, whose appetites for food, booze, and sex are as outsized as his name. He was the studio's biggest star, but he's become its biggest liability...

Would you like to hear the word "said" over & over
Revisado: 09-21-18
This is the author's 40th book. This is not the first book or a printing after he died. 1st: The longest period without the word "said" in the 2.5 hours I listened was about 30 seconds. The story is rough. I don't mean violent or gritty. I mean that I can summarize the plot of half the book here: A despicable actor is accused of murder and sexual assault. A law firm hires a private investigator to help determine innocence or guilt. The investigator finds ties between the actor and organized crime money. The investigator convinces the actor's bodyguard to work out and train at the investigator's gym in order to try to get information. Now if that scintillating plot sounds like it is worth half the book then this is the book for you. I gave up after the 9th description of the body of the investigator's girlfriend.
