I had trouble paying attention and had to repeat frequently so I probably can’t give it a very thoughtful review. I did enjoy the slight twist at the end and the reappearance of some previous characters, but Charlotte’s role seemed mostly in the background to me.

This whole series was worth my time

I may have liked this book the most out of the four in the series, but it’s difficult to be certain because I enjoyed them all so much. I think that Quinn weaves enough historical fact into the fiction to provide an entertaining education about the period. There were some passages where the book read more like a Harlequin romance than a historical fiction, and a few villains seemed comedic due to their extreme characterization. However, I was caught up in the plot so much that I found interruptions annoying and was sorry when the book came to its end.

Surprisingly appealing

I really enjoyed the character development and the way the story development entwined these women’s lives. I was surprised at how sympathetic I became for each of the women.

Story and Narrative were impeccable but

I love listening to books but many I enjoy are really not that compelling. This one was. I felt fear, grief, disgust, and joy right alongside Grace as her story progresses. Anyone that enjoys historical fiction centered on WWII will probably enjoy this book. I will be listening to it again.

I enjoyed having a little of 1920’s era post-war history mixed in with this cozy mystery. I enjoy the antics of this cast of characters.

Throughly enjoyable

I really enjoyed learning the backstory on the Mrs. Hudson. It was well written by King, and well read by the narrators. I wasn’t surprised to learn that there were some “quirks” in her history, either, to be honest. This was one of my favorites of the series.

Enthralling

I want sure at first that I would be able to get into this novel. The narrator’s delivery did not immediately appeal to me and I found myself unsympathetic to the main character even though I had never heard of him before. By the second chapter both the narrator and John Marshall had begun to interest me, and shortly thereafter I was hooked. The delivery of the narrator seems in keeping with how I would expect the main character to talk. The main character was developed to have layers that were appealing. It was a fascinating glimpse into history.

I wish there was a fourth and fifth book

A great read after The Spy Wore Red

This book was clear and entertaining. It helped filter the facts from the embellishments of Aline Griffith’s own “non-fiction”. It think it actually supported a surprising amount of incredulous bits from The Spy Wore Red. I enjoyed the notes sprinkled through out.
