Historia
In the aftermath of the struggle, long-held grudges are boiling over and conflicts are breaking out. The monarchs want to settle border disputes, the aristocrats want to impose their will on monarchs and peasants alike, the commoners want freedom and justice, and the magical communities want to rule all or else separate themselves from the mundanes. And most of this chaos is being orchestrated by Emily’s mentor, the sorcerer Void. He believes the only path to salvation for the Allied Lands is to make himself the undisputed ruler of the world.

Schooled in magic goes camping
Revisado: 01-31-22
Pretty self explanatory, this book is just the main characters traveling with very little story. However, the book sets the setting for the next book which will most likely be a good addition to the series.

If you are looking for a story about cheerful youngsters spending a jolly time at boarding school, look elsewhere. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire are intelligent and resourceful children, and you might expect that they would do very well at school. Don't.

Like handshakes or housepets, many things are preferable when not slippery. Unfortunately, in this miserable volume, I am afraid that Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire run into more than their fair share of slipperiness during their harrowing journey up, and down, a range of strange and distressing mountains.

Historia
When orphans Sorrel, Mark, and Holly are sent to live with their grandmother, a famous English actress, she enrolls them in the Children's Academy of Dancing and Stage Training, the same academy that made the orphans from Ballet Shoes famous so long ago. It's the chance of a lifetime, but the academy won't give the children the "proper" education their parents would have wanted. However, the children learn to love the academy when they find out that Sorrel has dramatic flair, Mark can sing, and Holly charms everyone with her adorable, impish ways.

unabridged???
Revisado: 04-30-09
this is one of my favourite books, and has been for over 20 years. so i was really pleased to find an unabridged recording. except, some of my favourite lines were missing. its possible of course that they never were in the american edition of this book, but i can't really see why that would be. what there was was good, other than hannah's own words in the hymns being unaccountably spoken rather than sung (the narrator obviously knew the tunes), which lowered the humour. but to leave out mark's description of his voice as a long grey man with a feather in his mouth seems a little strange.

Historia
When ad man Victor Dean falls down the stairs in the offices of Pym's Publicity, it looks like an accident. But Lord Peter Wimsey soon discovers there's more to copy writing than meets the eye. A bit of cocaine, a hint of blackmail, and some wanton women can be read between the lines. And then there is the brutal secession of murders - five of them - each one a fixed fee for advertising a deadly secret.

this was read very quickly, and many of the words were hard to hear, making the whole thing feel very rushed which was a shame as we really like ian carmichael's readings of other wimsey books.
