Historia
First published in Portuguese in 1968, Pedagogy of the Oppressed was translated and published in English in 1970. Paulo Freire's work has helped to empower countless people throughout the world and has taken on special urgency in the United States and Western Europe, where the creation of a permanent underclass among the underprivileged and minorities in cities and urban centers is ongoing. This 50th anniversary edition includes an updated introduction by Donaldo Macedo, a new afterword by Ira Shor, and many inspirational interviews.

Historia
Euripides' classic tragedy in a new verse translation and a new, full cast audio production. After Troy fell to the Greeks, Andromache, the wife of the slain Trojan king Hector, was taken as prize and given to Achilles' son Neoptolemus as his concubine. He treated her kindly, and in the fullness of time she bore him a son. But Neoptolemus went on to take as his wife Hermione, the daughter of Menelaus, but she could bear him no children. Enraged with jealousy, Hermione plots the death of Andromache.

Nice try
Revisado: 10-24-22
Poor sound mix overpowers actors’ voices at times. Many scenes are read in the style of a decent high school reader’s theatre. Timeless tale told with earnest but middling effect. Worth the 3 dollar Audible sale price. Not 4.

Historia
With 1919, the second volume of his U.S.A. trilogy, John Dos Passos continues his "vigorous and sweeping panorama of 20th-century America" ( Forum), lauded on publication of the first volume not only for its scope but also for its groundbreaking style. The novel opens to find America and the world at war, and Dos Passos's characters, many of whom we met in the first volume, are thrown into the snarl.

Historia
When painter Winslow Homer first sailed into the Gulf of Mexico, he was struck by its "special kind of providence." Indeed, the Gulf presented itself as America's sea - bound by geography, culture, and tradition to the national experience - and yet, there has never been a comprehensive history of the Gulf until now. And so, in this rich and original work that explores the Gulf through our human connection with the sea, environmental historian Jack E. Davis finally places this exceptional region into the American mythos in a sweeping history that extends from the Pleistocene age to the 21st century.

Criticisms of narrator are not fair
Revisado: 03-10-20
I don't know the guy, but I listened to the book and I've got no serious complaints about his narration style. Yes, he mispronounces a place name or two, but try reading a book that long and not make a little error or two... and I'll call you a world champion. Mr. Perkins reads just fine in my book.
As for the text, Gulf is an outright masterpiece. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in the Cajun Ocean down in south Louisiana.

Smart Collection, Absolutely Terrible Narration
Revisado: 04-03-18
The editors chose wisely their authors and title, providing a sensible overview of occult and esoteric writings. However, the narration by Strader and Brautigam couldn't be worse. Seriously -- and I listened to the entire work in vain hopes that I could somehow grow into the narration. The subject matter was just too compelling to ignore -- despite the narration. The two readers treat the text as if they are reading to preschoolers in a second language class, painfully enunciating each and every word in a deadened monotone. Awful, awful, awful vocal treatment of an otherwise excellent idea, grouping writings by Mead, Blavatsky, Manly Hall, Leadbeater, and Besant into a smart survey of the topic. I had planned to purchase Volume 1 and Volume II of "A Collection of Writings..." by Lamp of Trismegistus, but cannot go there, given the sad fact that Strader and Brautigam are listed as readers for those collections. If you want to find an avenue into esoteric and occult thought narrated by pros, consider Sean Pratt's reading of "The Doctrine and Ritual of High Magic" by Eliphas Levi, released in May of 2017, and Mitch Horowitz's reading of "The Kybalion," published by Gildan Media in 2013. This work is terribly disappointing, but as a consolation, all of the selections make good, old-fashioned reading. Now we can wait for a compilation of Manly Hall's works on Aubidle, hopefully by Gildan Media.
