Lying northeast of Massachusetts, just south of Hell, Arkham County is somewhere you find yourself, not somewhere you ever mean to go. Once you do find it though, you'd better get used to living there, as you may be there for however long you have left to live.

Just potential.

Pros: Excellent production.
Cons: Pace, flow, edited writing. Too bad it is messy and inconclusive.

Very interesting and educational book. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a master class on the history of champagne right before and during Napoleon’s reign.

Historia
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

I didn't click with it except...
Revisado: 06-12-24
... for a couple of stories. I might be missing the point of most of them but can't help to feel about it as an amalgamation of fillers with around a couple better developed ones.
Maybe because I was just expecting a full book rather than a collection of very very short stories.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

A very valuable and unbiased resource.
Revisado: 12-27-21
Depending on what your expectations and reasons for buying this book are, you might or not enjoy the title. I believe many out there considering a career in law enforcement would greatly benefit from this book. Mr Sellers paints, in my opinion, an objective and unbiased picture of what's like working for the bureau within a specific squad, place and having his background.
This is by no means the ultimate 'What's Like Working... ' guide. No one author could actually describe a holistic, all inclusive narrative of a job of this nature, but it does paint the broad strokes.
I personally found it really helpful and to the point. I wasn't in for the stories but nevertheless, I found Me Sellers' anecdotes absolutely enjoyable and diverse. Specially for such a brief assignment.

Scarlett DeHaven leaves Nashville behind for a new beginning in the Shenandoah Valley without memories of drug addiction and rehab. But after purchasing an abandoned house with a disturbing past in the hopes of transforming it into a luxury bed-and-breakfast, she experiences visions and voices. Strangers appear, bearing cryptic warnings. And a tunnel is discovered underneath the house - one that was historically used for a local cult’s rituals.

Tons of potential, rough around the edges.
Revisado: 12-05-21
I wish I could say I liked both the story and the main character. I originally wrote a lengthy review but then changed my mind.
I would wait for it to be on sale, does it work like that?
Although entertaining, I believe that the story (plot characters twists) and the recording are below the price point.

Historia
I've had to move out of the city and into the house I inherited here, in the idyllic fishing village of Porthcove, but only for as long as it takes to sell it. You see, I need the money, so I've started seeing some of the locals, you know, as patients, but I tell you, there's something really disturbing about charming neighbors sharing chilling secrets. And it isn't just that. It's the other things. Strange, inexplicable things. It started with odd smells, creepy sounds, and then the intruders...oh God, the intruders.

Revisado: 10-11-21
I enjoyed this book very much.
Although a bit predictable at times, its twists and turns did a great job keeping me on the edge of my sit. The main character is charming and personable, yet broken and frustrating at times. All sides of his personality are coherent with the story and comprehensibly developed.

Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the very special 12-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted fans of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon.
