I'm not sure why there are so many positive reviews- I really struggled to get through this one. There is SO MUCH exposition and SO LITTLE plot. The characters are lacking emotional maturity and are unhealthily obsessed with each other. It's neither normal nor admirable to work yourself to exhaustion for another person. Also, I developed an eye twitch at the the phrase "contemplative gaze" due to the frequency of use.

I can't with this girl. It's like the author wrote a 14-year-old, realized the ick factor, and then edited only her age but not behavior. For someone described as "intelligent, curious, and logic-driven", she's genuinely an idiot. When someone shows up and says "You're bound by a curse to either die or be my bloodbag+broodmare, also I'll do the same to any children you're forced to have", the proper response is not "Golly gee, Mr., you can fly??" I couldn't make it past chapter 5. Homegirl needs to visit the wizard for a brain AND a spine.

I usually love (love!) Geissenger, but this was a huge miss. I DNF'ed, and let me tell you, this could end like the movie Fear and the author wouldn't have to re-write anything. Textbook love-bombing, manipulation, and gas-lighting from the MMC with blind adoration and "his red flags are just love" from the FMC. Don't waste your time. Check out Queens and Monsters instead.

Not JT's Best

I'm usually a fan of JT Geissinger, but this one was a big miss for me. The story drags on, there's a lot of repetition, and the characters are pretty unlikeable. The female main character is deeply entitled, self-centered, and gives "main character energy" at all times. The male MC is slightly better but still a petulant spoiled child. It was a slog getting through this.

Garbage. Tristan is an unlikeable selfish ableist twat, and Marion is a doormat. "I'm blind." "But we're married!" "But I'm blind!" "But we're married!". And now you've read the book.

Loved the book and the narrator

This book was a beautiful, horrifying, and incredible story that I couldn't put down and can't stop thinking about. Plus, the narrator was incredible, with great delivery, and spot-on voices and accents. In particular, there are moments when the protagonist had memory flashes bam-bam-bam of different people in different eras, and the narrator has such different voices for each of the characters that it's easily understood. All-in-all, highly recommend.

Another knock-up story

I made it three chapters in. I wanted to like it- Getting Real made me laugh out loud. But when two months after a one-night stand the main character feels an inexplicable "twinge of nausea" and sore breasts... come on. I'm sick of the "a baby means we're fated to be together" trope.

I struggled to finish this one. The storyline is not terribly strong and is weakened by how juvenile the characters are. The narrator's voice could be whiny at times.
