Historia
1992. All across the United States respectable, upstanding citizens are showing up dead. These deaths could be accidents, and they don’t appear to be connected—until a fatal fall from a high-floor window attracts some unexpected attention. That attention comes from the secretary of defense. All of a sudden he wants an interagency task force to investigate. And he wants Jack Reacher as the army’s representative. If Reacher gets a result, great. If not, he’s a convenient fall guy.

horrible
Revisado: 01-20-25
not sure how this follows the hack reacher series, but some of the worst writing ive encountered in a long time, and ive grown comfortable with lee child's work. there are too many legitimate books out there to enjoy to waste your time and money on this one. dumping it after 7 chapters, and that was too many. Do not get this book. read that again. youre welcome.

Historia
In the war-ravaged borderlands of Ukraine, a Russian mercenary unit has gone rogue. Its members, conscripted from the worst prisons and mental asylums across Russia, are the most criminally violent, psychologically dangerous combatants to ever set foot upon the modern battlefield. With all attention focused on the frontlines, they have pushed deeper into the interior to wage a campaign of unspeakable barbarity. As they move from village to village, committing horrific war crimes, they meet little resistance as all able-bodied men are off fighting the war.

good story, excellent narration
Revisado: 11-21-24
i like the complexity of a couple parallel stories intertwined. i wish ths second story was a little more complex and intertwined but still appreciate the work. a little political given its relevance to current world events but thats the authors right. as always the narration was really good. so many concurrent voices to keep track of, im really impressed how well these are kept up. overall a great story. highly recommend.

For Hatch, normal is never easy. But in the months since surviving a deadly encounter atop an Alaskan glacier, she's settled into her life in Coronado. As she seeks to expose it, Hatch finds that there are forces willing to do anything to keep that from happening.

contrived
Revisado: 10-09-24
i love the hatch series but the books are starting to get predictable and linear. moreover, hatch seems to have evolved from someone who is trying to do her best in the face of adversity to right the wrongs she sees, to someone with a narcissistic bent on forcing everyone to do things her way, just because her gut tells her that's how its going to go. The end justifies the means, even if her family, love interests, and others swept up in her force are adversely affected. finally, the circumstances that come up in the most recent stories are just a little too hokie. whether its earthquakes in alaska or tornados in tennessee, it cheapens the story line of an otherwise engaging plot. surely the author can do better.

great storyline, deeply relevant issues delivered by well-developed characters. all the twists and turns you expect from baldacci, but I would argue this one has more meat on the bone than his other novels. context is, in many ways, just as relevant today as it was when the story is portayed. this book moved me, and hopefully, it will move you too. well done, mr baldacci!

Disappointing
Revisado: 08-05-23
This story had potential but the storyline and performers ensured that it would never be realized. I felt that the storyline was predictable, and sadly, some scenes were so outrageous in their resolution that it left me shaking my head in disgust. Amos is in an impossible situation but suddenly, out of nowhere, a resource shows up with the skills to solve his dilemma. It gets old. And the female narrator’s voice felt like nails on a chalkboard near the end when shes trying to present women under distress. Just horrible acting and i ended up shelving the story at the 2 hour mark as a result. I prefer stories that are cerebral and complex, not fantastic bordering on unbelievable. Do better, as we know you can, and find better actors. Please.

Couldnt even finish it
Revisado: 05-22-23
Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to story type, pace, etc., so you may like this book, but I just couldnt get into it. Basically a story about toxic people acting toxic. I felt no sense of engagement, drama, or inertia. I selected the book based upon the narrator, who had done a solid job on a patterson novel, but he could only do so much with this story. I prefer high-octane, edge-of-your-seat stories, but this felt like a sopranos marathon with all the trimmings. Your mileage may vary.

Lindsay McAllister has seen this signature before, when she was a rookie detective with the Chattanooga PD investigating the death of Judd Walker's wife, a murder that sent the handsome lawyer off the deep end. Now, Lindsay has the brutal task of telling Judd that his wife's killer has struck again, and she's going to need his help to outplay their opponent - because the killer is getting bolder, faster, and more ruthless. The game is escalating, and no one is safe.

i enjoy stories by BB but this one was a little too boilerplate. A strong narrator might have been able to salvage the story but this one, sadly, had the skills of a parent reading a fairytale to their children. I struggled to listen to this for 5 hours before I conceded my 1 credit.

meh
Revisado: 04-07-22
narrator was excellent. story was predictable. typical rhyme trying to solve crime, politicians causing friction and blocking progress with unfair behaviors. the usual pecking order issues in police bureaucracy. the associate who wanders into the story and provides the skills necessary to overcome problems that might otherwise result in significant collateral damage, and the resolution of the case with everything but a bow on top. idk, i just expect more given quality of some previous books. this seemed more brady-bunch in its dynamics and lessons-learned template. narrator did a very good job telling the story, however.

Revisado: 03-27-22
This story was so well written, with many twists and turns, and enough character development without being fluffy. The narrator was true to the story, affecting the different characters well. I miss books like this, with storylines that keep you on your toes and leave you hungering for the next book. very satisfying!
