Fun & Captivating
Revisado: 02-24-25
What a fun break from the real world. I love the premise & the clever writing. I couldn't wait to get back to this book to see which scenario Loren would be in next & how she would handle it. If I had to pick something I didn't like, it would be the trend nowadays in EVERY book & movie & show where they have to make sure & add a gay or lesbian relationship, you can count on it. When it popped up in this story (over & over) I said 'ah, there it is', but was so invested in the story I kept listening. The story is still good & funny & unique. The narrator was fantastic. She made me feel like I was right there with the main character. There were alot of laugh out loud moments & I was sad in a way the story had to end, but it wrapped up very appropriately.

Historia
In her 93 remarkable years, veteran freelance writer, memoirist, and writing teacher Brenda Ueland published some six million words. She once said there were two simple rules that she followed absolutely: to tell the truth, and to not do anything she didn't want to do. Such integrity both distinguishes and defines If You Want to Write, her best-selling classic that first appeared in the late 1930s and has inspired thousands to find their own creative center.

Historia
Anne Gallagher grew up enchanted by her grandfather’s stories of Ireland. Heartbroken at his death, she travels to his childhood home to spread his ashes. There, overcome with memories of the man she adored and consumed by a history she never knew, she is pulled into another time. The Ireland of 1921, teetering on the edge of war, is a dangerous place in which to awaken. But there Anne finds herself, hurt, disoriented, and under the care of Dr. Thomas Smith, guardian to a young boy who is oddly familiar.

I loved this book!

This was an unexpected joy. At first I wasn't sure about it but kept listening, then couldn't put it down. I was almost sad when it ended because I was so attached to the characters and their story. Now I'm looking for more books by this author.

Somewhat enjoyed
Revisado: 01-18-24
I really enjoyed the motivation & information. I did not enjoy the racism. I am a woman, but a white woman, so it left me wondering if she would mind me listening to her encouragement. Part of my childhood I grew up in the housing projects with a single mom by the way. I don't understand the divisiveness. Besides that, she is very impressive & encouraging & also a good narrator.

Historia
After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

Twenty years ago when Falk was accused of murder, Luke was his alibi. But now, more than one person knows they didn’t tell the truth back then, and Luke is dead.

Good story
Revisado: 07-20-22
Really good mystery, I enjoyed it. Good narration. I will say there were odd pauses at times, like maybe a flaw in the recording, I don't think it was the download & I swear I think part of one chapter was repeated. This was not enough to affect my overall enjoyment of the book. I will look for more books by this author.

Historia
Tressa Danell is finished with men - from the wastrel who left her a widow to the smelly trapper who keeps proposing to the banker who wants to repossess her bakery. Every hour is spent working to pay off her late husband's debt and keep a roof over her son's head, though it's doubtful she can do both for very long. But one thing's certain - she'll never be beholden to a man again.

Good book
Revisado: 09-16-21
Good clean book. Good story overall. About 3/4 of the way through I was frustrated by the main female character's stubbornness & insecurity but that was probably the author's intent. It all tied together nicely at the end. I like how the author worked God into the story.
