Surprisingly Fascinating
Revisado: 01-15-24
Being a lover of European history, but with little knowledge of the affects of Paris on American artists and culture, I began the book uncertain of whether I would enjoy it. But, having immensely enjoyed the author's previous works, I started forward. My trepidation soon fled. The book is a wonder and is both an American and a French treasure.

Good story but under developed with weak ending
Revisado: 11-07-22
Lots to like if you like Jack Reacher. I'm a fan of this series but this time it feels like Dick Hill was churning a book for sale as opposed to delivering an ever upgraded story. Reacher was too wooden and the ending too rushed. Unredemptive action and shallow characters are overwhelming an interesting plot.

As a boy, Evan Smoak was pulled out of a foster home and trained in an off-the-books operation known as the Orphan Program. He was a government assassin, perhaps the best, known to a few insiders as Orphan X. He eventually broke with the Program and adopted a new name - The Nowhere Man - and a new mission, helping the most desperate in their times of trouble.

Good but not Great
Revisado: 10-25-22
Scott Brick's performance is stellar as always. While Evan Smoak is a developing character, parts of the storyline felt artificially manufactured and then incomplete. Not sure if there was "a plot" or a series of sub-plots strung together. I enjoyed the book but left less satisfied as with previous books in the series.

Ten years ago, Spenser helped a teenage girl named Mattie Sullivan find her mother's killer and take down an infamous Southie crime boss. Now Mattie - a college student with a side job working for the tough but tender private eye - dreams of being an investigator herself. Her first big case involves a 15-year-old girl assaulted by a much older man at one of Boston's most prestigious private clubs. The girl, Chloe Turner, only wants the safe return of her laptop and backpack. But like her mentor and boss, Mattie has a knack for asking the right questions of the wrong people.

Borrowing from Jeffrey Epstein Story
Revisado: 04-23-22
As usual, Joe Mantegna is The Voice of Spenser. He's terrific. The dialog is snappy and the 3 primary characters of Spenser, Hawk and Mattie are what we have come to love.
The one downer is the not so thinly veiled take on the Jeffrey Epstein story. Stealing from that sordid tale was a bummer for me.

Very Good Origin Story for the Longmire Series
Revisado: 03-29-22
Have read most of the Longmire books, but was overdue in completing the first book in the series. Guidall was terrific as usual and overall I rate it 4 stars. The story was good, but too quickly predictable. The characters are interesting, but much better developed in later books. A must read to better understand Walt, Bear and Vic.

Historia
Viktor Orlov had a longstanding appointment with death. Once Russia’s richest man, he now resides in splendid exile in London, where he has waged a tireless crusade against the authoritarian kleptocrats who have seized control of the Kremlin. His mansion in Chelsea’s exclusive Cheyne Walk is one of the most heavily protected private dwellings in London. Yet somehow, on a rainy summer evening, in the midst of a global pandemic, Russia’s vengeful president finally manages to cross Orlov’s name off his kill list.

Silva Has Not Lost His Touch
Revisado: 03-23-22
The Cellist is terrific. The story is credible given world politics in 2020. 2 concerns: Silva has not set up a believable passing of the Office torch from Gabriel to his successor, and Ballerini is simply not as good as Phil Gigante....at least not yet.
