Matilda and her family came to life for me. I believe in her despite her flaws.

my attention did not waver through multiple courts.
intrigue, and adultery abound.
this is that rare book,in which even secondary players are given enough attention that they remain real, and are easily followed through multiple years and scenarios.

I was a bit afraid to start this, my knowledge of the era is spotty at best. I was afraid I'd be overwhelmed and unable to track names dates and events. instead I was mesmerized and sad to see it end.
