A new world
Revisado: 04-18-25
An interesting world is woven in here. A new take on a dystopian end. Most of the characters are rich, although they will strike you as two dimensional. What else but two dimensional could you be in such a world?

Historia
Work has never been as safe as it seems today. Safety has also never been as bureaucratized as it is today. Over the past two decades, the number of safety rules and statutes has exploded, and organizations themselves are creating ever more internal compliance requirements. Bureaucracy and compliance now seem less about managing the safety of workers, and more about managing the liability of the people they work for. At the same time, progress on safety has slowed. Many incident and injury rates have flatlined. Worse, excellent safety performance on low-consequence events tends to increase the risk of fatalities and disasters.

Mr. Dekker has presented thought-provoking ideas for years. In this outing, he does no less certainly worth a listen for safety professionals and operational managers.

Decent advice
Revisado: 04-19-23
I’m not sure all the precepts here will function for everyone, as they require effort and a change of mindset. That said, I do feel like the author’s assertions are correct and the methodology is sound. I have putting them into practice over the course of the last couple of months and have been finding improvements in many areas of my work and personal life.

Historia
The pressures on organizations to change will only increase over the next decades. Yet the methods managers have used to strengthen their companies—total quality management, reengineering, right sizing, restructuring, cultural change, and turnarounds—routinely fall short. In Leading Change, Kotter identifies an eight-step process that every company must go through to achieve its goal, and shows where and how people—good people—often derail.

Revisado: 01-03-23
There is a plot to the story. LHK continues to muddy her stories with polyamorous bulk and relationship issues. It is really a shame to have what could have been a great book muddied by polyamorous therapy.

Historia
Building on its successful predecessors, the third edition of The Field Guide to Understanding 'Human Error' will show a new way of dealing with a perceived "human error" problem in your organization. It will help you trace how your organization juggles inherent trade-offs between safety and other pressures and expectations, suggesting that you are not the custodian of an already safe system. It will encourage you to start looking more closely at the performance that others may still call "human error", allowing you to discover how your people create safety through practice, at all levels of your organization, mostly successfully, under the pressure of resource constraints and multiple conflicting goals.

Historia
Leland Gaunt opens a new shop in Castle Rock called Needful Things. Anyone who enters his store finds the object of his or her lifelong dreams and desires: a prized baseball card, a healing amulet. In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed", usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control, and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior.

What can you say? He is Stephen King.
Revisado: 12-02-20
Obviously needful things isn’t one of King‘s greatest works, but it is well done. In this particular selection he is narrating the story, and did it very well. I found it interesting to hear his characters come out of his own mouth. I believe it added to the experience.

The performance was rough
Revisado: 09-10-20
Of course this book is almost a modern classic with the famous Robin Williams movie being based on it. The story is top notch, but the voice and pentameter of the performer almost put me to sleep. No excitement conveyed at all.
