Historia
So begins a new preface, illustrating how Columbine became the template for nearly two decades of "spectacle murders." It is a false script, seized upon by a generation of new killers. In the wake of Newtown, Aurora, and Virginia Tech, the imperative to understand the crime that sparked this plague grows more urgent every year.

Refreshingly Informative
Revisado: 09-06-24
Insightful and courageous. It's what I feel for the author for tackling this event and fallout with courage and coming away with truths and insights many wanted or needed to hear/read. Thank you, too, for the narrator, for tackling this reading with sensitivity.

Historia
Lisbeth Salander—the heart of Larsson’s two previous novels—lies in critical condition, a bullet wound to her head, in the intensive care unit of a Swedish city hospital. She’s fighting for her life in more ways than one: if and when she recovers, she’ll be taken back to Stockholm to stand trial for three murders. With the help of her friend, journalist Mikael Blomkvist, she will not only have to prove her innocence, but also identify and denounce those in authority.

Best Story to Relisten to Again & Again
Revisado: 10-14-22
Great finish to the Dragon trilogy. There's never a lag in the telling. One of most unusual and best parts are the Female Warrior preambles before each section. Truly wonderful history lessons.
If I had any disagreement with the author, it would be the character Figuerola and her disturbing (to me) antagonism toward Berger. For a woman who hadn't known Blomkvist that long, it felt out of place for her to display aggressive possessiveness. The same can be said for Lisbeth, but hers was a little more understandable since it made more sense as she'd known Mikael a lot longer.
The reason this possessive antagonism against another woman bothers me is that it doesn't fit the theme. This trilogy is about violence against women and the men who enable it (to quote Mikael). Jealousy is an irrational emotion that is ***taught*** to women to hate all possible rivals for a man's affection. Except the focus needs to be on the man, not the other women. He's the one who strays and breaks faith in the relationship. Women need to be retaught that their girlfriends and possible girlfriends, acquaintances, & relatives, are not their enemy. We are all sisters in arms and only a person's actions are judged, not their gender.
But anyway, this book is very well written and the criticism is easily overlooked overall and I recommend this story. Simon Vance's reading of this trilogy is also excellent. He is one of my favorite audible readers.

Historia
Not every danger comes in the form of a mega-threat like a Titan. Some predators are a lot cozier...more personal. When one such creature threatens an independent tutor, Harry Dresden must shake off the blood and dirt of his most recent battles and rise to the occasion, even when it turns out that the new predator is far more dangerous and connected than first appearances would suggest.

An Excellent story
Revisado: 09-09-22
Well done, Mr. Butcher. I enjoyed this story very much. It had everything a Dresden story typically has: snark, emotion, explosions, challenges, and Harry's penchant for getting up in people's faces.
At first, the title had me thinking that the story would be about the IA asses and possibly that Rudolph would try to get the murder charge dismissed by lying and blaming Dresden. Bradley would back him up if nothing comes of his investigation of the bank robbery because he's afraid of Harry. But then that's likely to be a subplot for the next book--though not like I've laid out here.
I hope Twelve Months doesn't take twice as long to write.
ETA: I do hope your next reading goes better when it comes to Will's voice--to begin with, I mean. At the beginning of the story, I thought, "Jeez, Jim. Is Will on adderall?"

Historia
An all-new Dresden Files story headlines this urban fantasy short story collection starring the Windy City's favorite wizard. From the Wild West to the bleachers at Wrigley Field, humans, zombies, incubi, and even fey royalty appear, ready to blur the line between friend and foe. In the never-before-published "Zoo Day", Harry treads new ground as a dad, while fan-favorite characters Molly Carpenter, his onetime apprentice, White Council Warden Anastasia Luccio, and even Bigfoot stalk through the pages of more classic tales.

The last one most especially, with differing viewpoints. Gotta love Harry and his friends. Now hurry up with the next book, dammit.

Historia
In the most extraordinary journey Ann Rule has ever undertaken, America's master of true crime has spent more than two decades researching the story of the Green River Killer, who murdered more than 49 young women. Green River, Running Red is a harrowing account of a modern monster, a killer who walked among us undetected. It is also the story of his quarry -- of who these young women were and who they might have become.

Dreadful Narrator
Revisado: 03-28-17
What made the experience of listening to Green River, Running Red the most enjoyable?
The way Ann Rule writes this book is outstanding, especially her treatment of the victims as human beings.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Ann Rule's writing is well done.
How could the performance have been better?
Sadly, the narrator should have been someone else. When she says someone is dead, it's a flat, heavy sound that makes you cringe. It's a sharp contrast to the narrator of the abridged version of this audiobook, who is a lot better at reading such horrific content.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
It was everywhere, but particularly, there were two "mother" stories here that were similar but widely contrasting in economic circumstances: Ridgeway's mother, and the mother of one of the victims (I'm so sorry, I don't remember her name; there were so many, and that's not really an excuse). Both were horrible people, yet one was middle class and the other poor. Shows an example on how circumstances don't make the person.
Any additional comments?
I wish this book was reread by the abridged book's narrator.

Abridged
Revisado: 03-23-17
Would you consider the audio edition of Green River, Running Red to be better than the print version?
This isn't the book in its entirety and I'm seriously disappointed. The book is huge and I read it a few years ago. I wanted to hear it instead of reading it a second time and five hours is way too short.
What did you like best about this story?
Despite the short length, excellent coverage of the victims and a good summary of the murderer.
What about Michele Pawk’s performance did you like?
Ms Pawk's performance was excellent. I could easily see Ann dictating this.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I'd planned on listening to this all in one sitting.
Any additional comments?
Overall, I'd recommend this, but you need to understand that it's the abridged version. :( It was nearly as disappointing as John Douglas' Manhunter, which was extremely abridged.
