Tight "Imposter Syndrome" tale.
Revisado: 04-17-23
The author admits to "pantsing" this; starting to write with just the broad concept -- a twin comes back from a trip wrong somehow -- and letting the why work itself out.
That worked here. You get a well thought through plot. I think it could have even done with an additional hour or so of back story behind the threat. But I was satisfied with the story as stands, and think you will be too. Credit worthy.

Historia
The sequel to the number one Audible Best Seller Earthcore, Mount Fitz Roy continues the tale of Patrick O’Doyle and Bertha Lybrand, who were part of the horror show that occurred far below the mountains of Utah. They learn that the "mother of all motherlodes” discovered there was not unique, that there is another deposit similar to it three miles beneath the towering peak of Cerro Chaltén on the disputed border between Chile and Argentina. O'Doyle, a middle-aged former member of a disgraced black-ops unit, gets his aging team back together to go after this fortune.

Aliens and ultra violence

Does it all end well? I ain't telling. I will tell you this: You'll enjoy the ride. It'd be a wild one even without the incomparable Ray Porter narrating. But given he is, what's keeping you from dropping that credit?

Two Novellas = One Tight Short Novel
Revisado: 01-16-21
A good girl gets involved with an evil witch and they both effect each other in unexpected ways.
Outfield may be an amateur writer, but he crafts his stories like a pro. Characters have depth, plot points have somewhere to go and have a point to make when they get there. Too many genre writers give you nothing but an intriguing premise and a bunch of filler. Rish always gives you a full story. Give this lesser known writer a listen. You won't be sorry.

Lots of variety in these stories, considering they're the work of a single author. Some are vignettes w/o much action, but with fine insights into human nature and the human condition, worthy of pondering even after the narration ends. Others (more of these) feature well executed and imaginative plot devices that kept me riveted, hanging on every sentence. There's also a nice range of genres covered.
Rish has a lot of experience narrating, and producing, both his own stories and those of other authors. It shows here. Every character gets a unique, spot on appropriate, and well acted voice, all of which fall perfectly into place w/o disrupting the flow of Rish's own narrator's voice. The author's vocal skills almost make these stories sound like full cast recordings. Some of the voices are also hilarious, but always appropriately so.
The author's comments were always enjoyable and enlightening when offered, and missed when not. The interspersed flash fiction bits ranged from fun to meh, but didn't get in the way.
I got at least as much entertainment value out of this collection as I would from a well above average novel of equivalent length, and went on to purchase Rish Outfield's other story collection as well.

Any additional comments?
I'm usually not a big fan of supernatural tales. I liked this one because it was, above all, a well told story. The author is also an excellent narrator/performer. Character voices are distinct, apt & recognizable, but not over stylized.
For a haunted house tale, the horror element is somewhat subdued. Better description might be a "chilling mystery." I'm middle aged, and didn't feel at all mistargeted, but the ages of the protagonists (and lack of inappropriate content) will mean this work has YA appeal as well.
The authors' note at the end was a nice touch. Although I'm used to that as a listener of Outfield's various podcasts.
