Fun, adventurous with cute friendships
Revisado: 06-07-21
In ATLIC, we get to see Stassis present day, the post apocalyptic world with its advanced tech as well as a dive into Atlic industries history.
I enjoyed the present day mission the quad were assigned with, with high stakes and oceans eleven-esqu vibe. Plus, Stassi had to confront a ghost from the was to complete this task and we got see where Stassi comes from as she sorts it through, and that added added more dimensions to our MC.
Gage, and Molly are treat to have around they are funny and they keep Stassi in check. We got more of Molly and Stassi relationships in this sequel and it was nice to see the depth of their friendship.
Overall, pretty enjoyable but I would have liked a little more resolution of either Charles/Cyrus history /Necklace mystery.

Light space story
Revisado: 01-24-21
Thanks to the Author for this wonderful opportunity to listen to this book, and Audiobx for the review opportunity. The narrator was engaging and easy to follow.
Starfire is a book perfectly suited for its genre, in YA Space scifi & fantasy. It deals with landing on a new planet where they are not alone... but it's not the locals that have sinister agenda but the incoming humans.
Its a light space fantasy since we don't get a in depth back story about how they came upon a new planet, since we start of with MC being already enroute and lands into thorny situation upon reaching the planet.
THE Alcou, it's an interesting concept dealing with multiple dimensions and their life source is under danger from being tampered by human.
I feel the parts with Jivan were rushed, our MC could've gleaned more but their interactions were too short on discoveries but to much on angst.
Cassie, our MCs goal was to find out what happened to her father prior landing, but with the Alcous survival on the line she.... Obviously takes matter into her own hands.... And I'm sorry to say it felt a bit too easy.
She somehow has all the right people at her reach and are blindly going along with her....
However, the overall story was enjoyable, I will be listening to the sequel to see where the story picks from book1

Action packed, & full of surprises
Revisado: 07-20-20
This one was full of action with Avelyn taking teh reins this time round plus we get more of the immersion abilities explored and it was quite fascinating!
-
The book takes place after MC leaves Direction's city and now is seeking refuge in New Philadelphia. Everything seems fine and dandy there until Direction attacks and the presidents motives are revealed. Thus, Avelyn and her friends are on the run again and this time to a place she never imagined she'd ever end up in, the outerbounds.
-
As usual the immersion bits were the most amazing parts and I'd fun watching Avelyn discovering how the old world used to work and her unique bond with Ben. I still didnt get what they want with superhuman techies, conquer the world or to make everyone superhuman....we just know it's to use her for their own means...
We get a an important reveal towards the end, although I'd figured it out early on but I'm still excited to see what it will bring about in book 3!
I find the character development especially the side characters', to the point they didn't evenintrigue me anymore, like as soon as they live NP they just become stagnant maybe because we don't have have many scenes focused on them as much as Ben was., especially with Arin whom we get to know nothing about except him being a drone expert and confused about Avelyn. Nothing new on Myers side either and I felt myself caring less for them and it saddens me since I'd rooted for them in book 1.
I hope it's redeemed in book 3!

Dystopia with hacker twist
Revisado: 07-11-20
This book's world building is the one we're all quite familiar with, a perfect society with villanous leadership. However, Avelyn isn't your usual character, with her tech abilities that bring her closes to the heart Direction's motives and the race against time to stop them, before they cause further damage to the people.
Direction's villainy is one that is self serving and their way of keeping face was impressive, manipulating Affinity's messgwe to look like a threat and constant effort to corner them till they are obsolete.
I enjoyed Avelyn undercover excursions a lot, it was exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time. But ot took a while before we got to that and spent most of the book with Avelyn finding snippets of Directions agenda and even her bio family's mystery.
with how the book ended, I'm interested to see where it will lead to next.

Action packed & full of intrigue & feels
Revisado: 07-03-20
Confectioner's coup has : Political intrigue - with more of Hale, Sable, Wren, Lucas & Callidus... I've come to root for them even more than ever. We even get Hales POV, which was a refreshing and much needed outlook with what was to come in this story.
This sequel starts of with the guild recruiting a new gifted whilst the king is kidnapping the gifted members from every guild meanwhile in the background the threat of the onslaught of The Aprican empire grows.
Asides that we get to see Wren reconciling with Hale, dealing with the kidnappings and struggling with the guild secret as Lucas tries to dive deep into the investigation.
The story felt slow at the start and only picking up when the kidnappings began and there was never a dull moment since then as Wren has to deal both emotionally and practically with threat of Maridus falling and the catipulating of the guilds by both sides.
I'm still reeling from the last 1/3 of the story, the narrator Kesley, has done a good job bringing this story to life and had me teared up at that moment.
Wren wants to save the guild, the gifted members-her friends an her city... But she can't have it all and even with whatever victory she manged the losses leave a scar nevertheless.
(spoiler bit) the only downside would be that there were little of confections involved in this book, when the internal dispute was about getting hands on them after all.
Absolutely love this installment, I usually listen while working but found my self reluctant to stop even after I was done.

°° Many thanks to the author, Claire Luana, for this wonderful opportunity to review her book and also Audiobox for featuring this amazing book. °°
I am half tempted to add in baking phrases and food adjectives in my review after listening to this. But, Flame it, I'll hold back a bit.
-what I liked-
Firstly enjoyed the confection background of the story how every day things like food, clothes etccan have greater purpose to serve than just being used for survival.
I loved the mystery aspect of the story and how the story managed to keep up the intrigue by introducing new suspects and at the same time hurtling new obstacles in Wrens path. It made me wonder will our MC with limited knowledge and power be able to get out of this web of conspiracy.
The characters and their characterizations made this book a whole more worthwhile, Wren with her suspicious instinct with her yearning for love and belonging slipping through, and her friends open minded, supportive and head strong.
No one is as they seem, sweet may turn bitter and vice versa and her worst adversary may not be that at all...they were deeply layered personality with surprises.
I appreciated how after some of Wren's trust backfired she didn't go back in blindly forgiving everything, but was wary and accepting as she should.
_the meh bit_
I found the relationship with Lucas, progressing too fast and was rushed or maybe it was intended to make it see her feelings were because he was her knight in shining Armour?
To me, one bit of the clues made it very obvious who it was the motive too, nevertheless I still like how it resolved at the end and... It wasnt a straight cut one mind you!

Splendid storytelling, familiar storyline.
Revisado: 01-18-20
I breezed through this audiobook whilst moving houses, as much as I liked how the story flowed, it strongly reminded me of the Trylle Triology by Amanda Hocking with some different impressive elements introduced into the Fey world.
Regardless, found myself glued to the story and was surprised when the end was announced and immediately switched to the sequel.
All in all, I adored the characters, although I expected interaction with wider cast characters but it didn't make the story any less enjoyable. Looking forward to the sequel.
Thank you to Audiobox and the author herself for this copy.

interesting world building
Revisado: 08-29-19
Really enjoyed this realistic sci-fi tale, revolving around a world within our world yet contrasting in every way. I think I liked the siblings relationship along with some of their friends I was at home with them almost Instantly.
The world building was quite impressive, if a bit too descriptive, but it seemed plausible (although Hella expensive I'm sure) with high tech encompassing one world while candle were still being lot in another world. There are stark cultural differences let alone technology and just to move ahead of the future the characters will have to delve back to the advent of the biodome where it all began...for there's more to worry about than justfuture Mars.
The off-putting point would be the info dumping, and how the epilogue was literally the book's prologue? I really wish we got to see more of coals and Willows past, for throughout the story he acted like a stubborn blind man, and rare redeeming qualities.
Other than that I loved the family dynamics and seeing how the characters dealt with their world's, and the story had me on the edge about all the mysteries popping up and how the biosphere project may not head where its intended.....(conspirational thinking)
Spoilerish thought is, I find Fillions change of heart at the epitome of the story tad bit unrealistic, since he gives the vibe of conquering every challenges he face...oh well onto book 2.
All in all a wholesome, creative story that revolves around not just Future earth and terraforming but also the roles the people play to bring about a new world...
