Historia
A masterful, moving novel about age, memory, and family from one of the literary icons of our time. Ptolemy Grey is 91 years old and has been all but forgotten - by his family, his friends, even himself - as he sinks into a lonely dementia. His grand-nephew, Ptolemy's only connection to the outside world, was recently killed in a drive-by shooting, and Ptolemy is too suspicious of anyone else to allow them into his life. Until he meets Robyn, his niece's 17-year-old lodger and the only one willing to take care of an old man at his grandnephew's funeral.

Characters are brought to life
Revisado: 01-12-25
This novel was all engrossing. The narrators rich voices, the authors symmetry, words, character development. Wow. This is a book that I couldn’t wait to finish, but hated that it ended. Ptolemy Gray and the way that he thought, cared, loved and lived were entirely humanistic. His seeing the doctor who gave him a chance to be his old self again, as Satan made so much sense because of his age and the things that he’d experienced in life. Robin and his relationship was beautiful. I wish more young people cared and respected their elders in this way. Bravo Mr. Mosley, I didn’t think I could love another character of yours as much as I’ve loved Leonid McGill; yet here I am. I’m hoping that we get more on Robin and how she manages her new wealth and everyone Papa Gray has charged her with taking care of.

Historia
It’s the summer of 2019, and Professor Pi Suleman is a Black man from Memphis with a lot to endure - not only as a Black man in Trump’s America but in his hard-earned career as an adjunct professor. Pi is constantly forced to bite his tongue in the face of one of his tenured colleague’s prejudices and microaggressions. At the same time, he’s being blackmailed by a powerful professor who threatens to claim he has assaulted her, when in fact the truth is just the opposite, trapping him in a he-said-she-said with a white woman that, in this society, Pi knows he will never win.

It gets better and better.

I didn’t want it to end. I love this book. It was a slow start, but cheese and peas!!! I need more Pi, Fatima, the fastest swimmers, Gemma Buckingham, and Dr. Stone Calhoun. May EJD rest in peace forever. These characters had depth, they were all different and the themes of this book were necessarily uncomfortable. It’s a MUST READ/LISTEN!

Historia
Leonid McGill's spent a lifetime building up his reputation in the New York investigative scene. His seemingly infallible instinct and inside knowledge of the crime world make him the ideal man to help when Phillip Worry comes knocking. Phillip "Catfish" Worry is a 92-year-old Mississippi bluesman who needs Leonid's help with a simple task: Deliver a letter revealing the black lineage of a wealthy heiress and her corrupt father. Unsurprisingly, the opportunity to do a simple favor while shocking the prevailing elite is too much for Leonid to resist.

Leonid McGill
Revisado: 03-08-24
What more can I say? Outside of loving Deion’s reading of the book. Leonid is my favorite Walter Moseley character. Right next to Easy Rawlins.

Historia
After years of hiding her addiction from everyone—stockpiling pills in her Louboutins and elaborately scheduling her withdrawals between PTA meetings, baby showers, and tennis matches—Laura Cathcart Robbins is running out of places to hide. She has learned the hard way that even her high-profile marriage and Hollywood lifestyle can’t protect her from the pain she’s keeping bottled up inside. Facing divorce, the possibility of a custody battle, and the insistent voice of internalized racism that nags at her as a Black woman in a white world, Laura wonders just how much more she can take.

Couldn’t stop listening
Revisado: 07-21-23
I needed to know what happened next. And Laura was great at letting me know. The twists and turns, the truths and how much they resonated with what we’ve seen on tv with mom’s in situations like this. But this was real life. The author allows you in to see and feel her raw emotions and honest reactions. Beautifully written, and read as well.

The Women's Murder Club Does it Again

Love the readings by January. Her voice helps me imagine the scenes that are being read. I love James Patterson and these books are my favorite series.
I wasn't expecting the change of events with Yuki, but it was goooooooood. Loved this book.
