Historia
The quiet of a Texas night is shattered by the sounds of screeching brakes, crumpling metal and, most shockingly, rapid gunfire. The auto accident Jack Ryan Jr thought he witnessed turned out to be a professional hit. Jack may be too late to save the victim, but he’ll be damned if he’s going to let the hitters escape justice. He’s got just one lead—a meeting the victim was going to. When Jack shows up instead, he’s drawn into the seedy underbelly of a small Texas town and the cold case of a college student who vanished from its streets.

Historia
Wyoming's new governor isn't sure what to make of Joe Pickett, but he has a job for him that is extremely delicate. A prominent female British executive never came home from the high-end guest ranch she was visiting, and the British Embassy is pressing hard. Pickett knows that happens sometimes - these ranches are stocked with handsome young cowboys, and "ranch romances" aren't uncommon. But no sign of her months after she vanished? That suggests something else.

Tired of open endings
Revisado: 07-25-18
The book was good until the ending. I don't need "cliff hangers" to make me want to read the next book. If the writing is good, which this series is, then tie up the loose ends, especially when they are so important as in this one. I almost didn't get this one because i had a similar feeling with the last one. I'll probably pass next time. Life's too short...

Good plot, drawn out, narration distracting
Revisado: 03-15-18
Would you try another book from William L. Myers Jr. and/or Peter Berkrot?
Yes for the author, no for the reader.
What other book might you compare A Criminal Defense to and why?
n/a
What didn’t you like about Peter Berkrot’s performance?
He speaks with a constant "whisper" at the end of his sentences. It was very distracting and "off putting" to me.
Do you think A Criminal Defense needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No, but there could be one.
Any additional comments?
The story was a little drawn out with repeated angst by the main character. Over done.

Getting too sillly!
Revisado: 02-22-17
If you could sum up Ring of Fire in three words, what would they be?
Good story, except...
Who was your favorite character and why?
As always, Pike.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
To a point.
Any additional comments?
Two areas became distractions because they were so unbelievable. Both involved security, one for an aircraft carrier and another for the President . Without giving away the story, no way the aircraft carrier would have been without any defenses, and second, no way the Secret Service would allow a situation involving the President to degenerate to the point it did without taking action. It seems like the writer took the easy way out in these cases. I'll try Pike one more time, but if this continues, that will be it.

Not the Best
Revisado: 09-29-16
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Narrator. He has a voice that always seems to be breathless at each word. Very annoying. More suitable for a description of passionate embrace that a spy thriller.
Would you recommend Tom Clancy's Op-Center: Scorched Earth to your friends? Why or why not?
Would say it is only OK.
How could the performance have been better?
The narrator has one voice inflection that is unsuitable for this type of novel.
Could you see Tom Clancy's Op-Center: Scorched Earth being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Yes. Unknown.

Could Not Understand the Narrator
Revisado: 04-08-13
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Cannot say.
What was most disappointing about Susan Elia MacNeal’s story?
I could not understand the narrator.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Wanda McCaddon?
Almost anyone.
Any additional comments?
The problem was that the narrator was attempting to create several voices, all with a British accent. They became garbled and very difficult to understand. I gave up after abour 50 minutes. Also, the story had not begun to form much of a plot as of that time.

Not as good as I'd hoped

Not as good as I'd hoped
Revisado: 06-28-11
The authors all seemed to go to the "dark side" for this one. Most of them write books where the characters overcome significant odds to come out on top. Almost all of these short stories seemed to have the good guys lose. Perhaps, they were all trying to be more realistic. Unfortunately, I read these types of novels for enjoyment and escapism. I see enough "reality" in daily life.
