Deacons Pod is a great listen with interesting guests and thought-provoking conversations. I especially like hearing each guest answer the "threshold question."

Julie Andrews' aunt's cat
Revisado: 08-07-21
Holy details, Batman!
This is DETAILED memoir by the great Julie Andrews. In fact, in places, it's basically a diary. Perhaps, there are sometimes too many details. For instance, the reader did not need to know when her aunt's cat died.
But, overall, it was great listen. And I have no doubt historians and archivists were happy to learn so much about this fascinating patch of the 20th century.
Two notables:
- In this book, Julie Andrews rewrites the history of the authorship of the song "I Have Confidence," which is heard only in the film version of "The Sound of Music." Most histories say Richard Rogers penned the lyrics and the music. But, in this book, Julie Andrews gives more credit to the film's music director.
- Julie gives us a brief but important glimpse of conditions in Cambodia / Vietnam during her trip there.

Carol Leonnig has been reporting on the Secret Service for The Washington Post for most of the last decade, bringing to light the secrets, scandals, and shortcomings that plague the agency today - from a toxic work culture to dangerously outdated equipment to the deep resentment within the ranks at key agency leaders, who put protecting the agency’s once-hallowed image before fixing its flaws. But the Secret Service wasn’t always so troubled.

Important Book
Revisado: 06-08-21
This book looks at the human frailties of the men and women in the U.S. Secret Service. I'm thankful for the history it records of this important part of the federal government.

This my re-telling of the story of England. I aim to be honest, and rigorous - but always loving of my country's history. It is a regular, chronological podcast, starting from the end of Roman Britain. There are as many of the great events I can squeeze in, of course, but I also try to keep an eye on how people lived, their language, what was important to them, the forces that shaped their lives and destinies, that sort of thing. To listen free of adverts, support the podcast, access a library of 150+ hours of shedcasts of me warbling on, and get new shedcasts every month, why not become a ...

Revisado: 04-21-21
I'm thankful to Chasten for writing this book. It's a good account of this moment in our nation's history. Future historians of 1990 - 2020 are going to be grateful for the details of life and politics provided here.
This memoir also is going to be an inspiration to young readers facing hardships related to family, money, school, jobs and relationships.
Dear young readers: Chasten shows you here that things can get better, and you never know what unexpected twist may enter YOUR story.

The orphaned Francis Marion Tarwater and his cousin, Rayber, defy the prophecy of their dead uncle - that Tarwater will become a prophet and will baptize Rayber's young son, Bishop. A series of struggles ensue, as Tarwater fights an internal battle against his innate faith and the voices calling him to be a prophet, while Rayber tries to draw Tarwater into a more “reasonable” modern world. Both wrestle with the legacy of their dead relatives and lay claim to Bishop's soul.

Historia
The Decade of Obama (2007-2017) was one of massive change that rewrote the rules of politics in ways we are only now beginning to understand (which is why we all got 2016 wrong). Yes We (Still) Can looks at how Obama navigated the forces that allowed Trump to win the White House to become one of the most consequential presidents in American history, why Trump surprised everyone, and how Democrats can come out on top in the long run.

I wanted to love this book. Because Dan Pfeiffer and I are really on the same page right now.
But, instead, I learned why the Obama administration lots its mojo so many times. And, I got an example of the Democrats' hubris that helped to deliver Trump.
