A Very engrossing story
Revisado: 03-05-25
This is not your run of the mill scifi story with lots of neon and shiny objects. This story takes place on Mars. Our unlikely hero is a low caste worker in the depths of Mars who toils to make the planet livable for more of humanity. We follow his journey as he goes undercover to free his people.
The thing I like most about this story is that surprising things happen but they make complete sense in this world. We follow the main character as he navigates winning a game that will propel him to a position to free Mars. This story is a great and interesting read!
The narration is great! Definitely recommend.

Meanwhile, Huck Finn has faked his own death to escape his violent father, recently returned to town. As all readers of American literature know, thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the elusive and too-often-unreliable promise of the Free States and beyond.

Using Huckleberry to shine a light on Jim
Revisado: 01-22-25
This was a great way of using a well known story to shine a light on what slavery was like at the time of Huckleberry Finn. I felt like Jim was a plaything in HF. Especially near the end where the boys come up with that whole complex plan to have Jim escape I like the way James was handled much better. It made Jim a whole person. And it taught me a little about American history that I had no idea about. The narrator was great and really doesn't distract from the story. Overall, a great book!

This is a very interesting question that is pondered I. the middle of a very Interesting story. A bunch of variously modified people are sent to make contact with an alien species at the edge of the Solar System. But, figuring these creatures out brings up questions about humanity.

This book made me think about the Universe in an awe inspiring way. There is so much out there that we can learn before we get the ability to go visit these alien worlds. It also reminds us that we have to take care of the only planet that we evolved on.

The future comes at you fast
Revisado: 10-17-24
I really liked how it gave you the feeling of trying to keep up with constant new technology. It's a bit disorienting. Even when you are a character that starts out at the forefront of technology. It can be somewhat dense but very interesting. And it will take you to many interesting places and ideas. Finally, the narration is great.

Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Loved the book already but Andy Serkis makes it even better!
Revisado: 08-14-24
When I was a kid I think this is the first long book I ever read. And I read this and the LOTR trilogy every few years. Tolkien is great at creating well realized far off places you'd like to have adventures in.
It is the story of a Hobbit named Bilbo that is not prone to adventurousness that ends up being swept into one. And finding himself quite capable with the help 12 dwarves and sometimes a wizard. Luckily the he story is much much better than my description of it.
However, the best part of this audiobook has to be Andy Serkis' narration. All the voices are as distinct as a person could make them. And very well acted. I'd have Mr. Serkis read everything to me if possible. Haha!

Revisado: 08-05-24
This book did a good job of identifying distractions and giving you ways to deal with them. It also gives ways to make distractions less pervasive in your life. It covers everything from workplaces to family life. It basically gives you tips on how to respect your own time. I found it very helpful.

Historia
Today's "machine-learning" systems, trained by data, are so effective that we've invited them to see and hear for us - and to make decisions on our behalf. But alarm bells are ringing. Systems cull résumés until, years later, we discover that they have inherent gender biases. Algorithms decide bail and parole - and appear to assess black and white defendants differently. We can no longer assume that our mortgage application, or even our medical tests, will be seen by human eyes. And autonomous vehicles on our streets can injure or kill.

Revisado: 07-27-24
This book does a great job of telling the history and current limits of AI. It also does a good job of shining a light on or own shortcomings and how we should be careful not to imprint them in our AI. We should be careful but we can learn a lot from each other.
The narration was great and the story was very interesting.
