Historia
A truly contemporary take on how to be a witch, Rebel Witch is an antidote to the cookie-cutter witchcraft agenda that gives a new perspective on the craft, asking each reader to create a powerful, personalized practice that taps into the current mood of female empowerment and spiritual rebellion. Rebel Witch reminds witches of the wondrous opportunity to jump into experimentation and invent something wild and individual, a practice shaped by their individual personality and life journey, rather than allowing themselves to be spoon-fed.

Seriously?
Revisado: 02-02-22
Spoilers if you care, but you really really shouldn't. I don't even know where to begin with this. The ending was such a complete let down that it makes you feel like you absolutely wasted 20 hours of your life that you can't get back. What was the point of any of it? None of the characters' efforts mattered at all in the least. There was no character growth (except for Frankie). They go through all this bs and EVERYONE DIES ANY WAY. EVERYONE. Did the author read Game of Thrones and say hold my beer? Why did he put the characters through all that? Why put the reader through it? What was the point of the visions? Why didn't the author just have them all lay down in front of the demons on page one and save themselves and us a whole lot of useless striving. Ob was absolutely right. They should have just given up. There was no point to any of it. What a waste. One star grudgingly given for originality.

I like how different this is from other zombie scenarios, but all that build up for a lame cliffhanger at the end?? Super messed up. Also, this is one of the few zituations where I would honestly have to say what's the point in trying to survive? You can't beat organized and intelligent deadites. There is zero chance of restarting society so what's the point, really?

When you have to kill the same terrorist twice in one week there’s either something wrong with your world or something wrong with your skills - and there’s nothing wrong with Joe Ledger’s skills. And that’s both a good and a bad thing. It’s good because he’s a Baltimore detective who has just been secretly recruited by the government to lead a new task force created to deal with the problems that Homeland Security can’t handle....

Revisado: 01-11-22
Loved this! It reminds me a bit of the stand only great all the way through. it's really difficult to maintain a thread of hope in a post apocalyptic story without it seeming trite or contrived, but McCammon does it. Highly recommend this!

Historia
Kate Collins has been ghosted. She was supposed to be moving in with her new boyfriend, Scott, but all she finds after relocating to Brighton is an empty apartment. Scott has vanished. His possessions have all disappeared. Except for his mobile phone. Kate knows she shouldn't hack into Scott's phone. She shouldn't look at his Tinder, his calls, his social media. But she can't quite help herself. That's when the trouble starts. Strange, whispering phone calls from numbers she doesn't recognize. Scratch marks on the walls that she can't explain.

Go read The Last Days of Jack Sparks instead
Revisado: 11-22-21
Ugh. I was so excited to read this because I LOVED The Last Days so much. But I just can't. I don't think I've ever been more annoyed at a protagonist in my life. I think the premise could have been really good, but he left the reveal way too late, instead focusing on the protagonists mind games. I do hope that he keeps writing because his ideas are very original and Jack Sparks maybe one of the best horror books I've ever read. But this one just ain't it.

Historia
It was no secret that journalist Jack Sparks had been researching the occult for his new book. No stranger to controversy, he'd already triggered a furious Twitter storm by mocking an exorcism he witnessed. Then there was that video: 40 seconds of chilling footage that Jack repeatedly claimed was not of his making, yet it was posted from his own YouTube account. Nobody knew what happened to Jack in the days that followed - until now.

Historia
More than a decade ago, Mira fled her small, segregated hometown in the south to forget. With every mile she traveled, she distanced herself from her past: from her best friend Celine, mocked by their town as the only white girl with black friends; from her old neighborhood; from the eerie Woodsman plantation rumored to be haunted by the spirits of slaves; from the terrifying memory of a ghost she saw that terrible day when a dare-gone-wrong almost got Jesse—the boy she secretly loved—arrested for murder. But now Mira is back to attend Celine's wedding at the plantation.

Historia
Alma Katsu calls My Heart Is a Chainsaw “a homage to slasher films that also manages to defy and transcend genre.” On the surface is a story of murder in small-town America. But beneath is its beating heart: a biting critique of American colonialism, Indigenous displacement, and gentrification, and a heartbreaking portrait of a broken young girl who uses horror movies to cope with the horror of her own life.
