Historia
When all she wanted was to fit in, Tamika Catchings stood out and felt left out, never knowing one day she'd stand out - as a basketball superstar and an inspiration. She faced being set apart by her hearing loss, separated from family, living up to high expectations, and the pain and discouragement of debilitating physical injury. Yet she reached for the stars with hard work, perseverance, and her faith in God. Through the silence, she found the way to shine.

Catchings shares
Revisado: 04-27-24
I enjoyed hearing Catching's journey in the basketball world. Her sharing the vulnerability in her family dynamics will help someone and I admire that. We have so few women in Sports with books, I had to read this. I wasn't so much interested with the play by play of the games, but I will take it if it means we have a great role for the next generation. l hope she writes another one about being a Sports Executive.

Historia
Mark Whitaker's Smoketown is a captivating portrait of this unsung community and a vital addition to the story of black America. It depicts how ambitious Southern migrants were drawn to a steel-making city on a strategic river junction; how they were shaped by its schools and a spirit of commerce with roots in the Gilded Age; and how their world was eventually destroyed by industrial decline and urban renewal. Whitaker takes listeners on a rousing, revelatory journey - and offers a timely reminder that Black History is not all bleak.

it was full of surprises of Pittsburgh greats. So well intertwined. From Lena Horne to August Wilson, who knew they were from Pittsburgh. The characters were so well fleshed out. Well done.

What I needed
Revisado: 10-25-21
My husband keeps telling me to give my business to God but I wasn't sure how to do this. This book gave me the steps plus business practices. I am so thankful and grateful. Since I did the audiobook, I would like to get and index of the scripture references. My favorite part was about building relationships. That was very encouraging. I hope there is another book.

Do While Others Planning
Revisado: 05-28-20
This book was written for such as time as this. It says majority reduce during a crisis but he expanded and that has made all the difference.
If you have ever taken the DiSC assessment, you will understand when I say the author is an Eagle, not only does he operate alone he will act alone and fast. That is the secret sauce "Be in Action" not "Be in Planning". I believe this has been my leadership since high school, see a problem, go into action without committee, access, try again. And that has made all the difference. I'm going back to listen again, the author is entertaining, (you get more than the written book). Each chapter ends with review questions to make sure you get the concepts.

Historia
Today, sports arenas have been transformed into staging grounds for American patriotism and the hero worship of law enforcement. Teams wear camouflage jerseys to honor those who serve; police officers throw out first pitches; soldiers surprise their families with homecomings at halftime. Sports and politics are decidedly entwined. But as journalist Howard Bryant reveals, this has always been more complicated for black athletes, who from the start were committing a political act simply by being on the field.

Down Memory of the Disruptive Heros of Game
Revisado: 01-27-20
I began watching the game as an activist. My father rooted for the Celtics because they had the first Black Coach, later became friends with Sam Jones famous Celtic. We were Georgetown fans because of John Thompson, because John had a all black team in the Final Four. So this book gave me more such heros that either I didn't know or gave me more insight on that and propelled me for more. For instance the fact that Rutgers will have their first African-American Presidents made me think of Paul Roberson and wonder what his bones response would be in the grave. Never would have had that thought if had not listened to this book.
