Joseph Fink has a way of exposing horror and fear in a light which is, sure, absolutely terrifying, but also very relatable. In case you're unsure if this is the book for you, I'd definitely recommend starting out with the Alice Isn't Dead podcast, to get a taste of the writing and main character's personality.

One would hope the passing of time would render The Handmaid's Tale less relevant, or at the very least less of a oh-so-important warning. However, as the release of a sequel (together with the HBO series) reveals, it is as contemporary as ever. The possibility of the horrors of Gilead becoming even more real is a threat that hangs over every woman's head, whether we are aware of it or not. Margaret Atwood manages to expose this terrible truth while conceding us hope that we may overcome such horrible possibilities, should they come to fruition. Beautifully written, terrifyingly close to home and to today's reality, both it's predecessor and The Testaments are a must read for anyone interested in the politics of female reproductive rights, and any other human rights. Thanks Margaret!

A true and jarring story of girlhood, of growing up a lesbian/bi woman, of not fitting in. And the few gorgeous delicious times we do. Relatable and unique. Truly gorgeous.

Painfully relevant, so carefully composed... it's a pity how modern this feels, how in sync with our reality. Worth a read, worth many reads. Maybe some day, somehow, somewhere we will get its message into our thick skulls.

I often found myself crying at the most unexpected of times. Beautifully and intimately told.

This book has you mourning for a feminism that is no longer, and hoping there is still a way to rekindle this flame. Always truthful, brutally honest, and yet kind. It feels like an unimaginable honour to have this true force of second wave feminism tell you her story, and the movement's story, and her close friends' stories. This is Herstory at its prime, being passed down literarily and orally. This book feels like coming home.

As a woman in the year of 2019, this book is a reminder of all the ways the movement wound up failing, and still can, even as we try once again to reorganize radical feminism. It is also a testament to how the third wavers have not relented in sending us back, removing the great steps our true feminist foremothers took for us.

This book has a woman wishing she could be an Amazon, and knowing deep down all females share this critical struggle. Sisterhood is still powerful, we just need to learn that although we can all be Wonder Women, we are not necessarily perfect women. And that's okay.
