Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Historia
Bullying and abuse are at the source of much misery in our lives. Because we are not taught about our brains, let alone how much they are impacted by bullying and abuse, we do not have a way to avoid this misery, heal our scars, or restore our health. In The Bullied Brain, listeners learn about the evidence doctors, psychiatrists, neuropsychologists and neuroscientists have gathered, that shows the harm done by bullying and abuse to your brain, and how you can be empowered to protect yourself and all others.

Historia
Two-thirds of us have experienced at least one adverse childhood experience, or ACE, such as abuse, neglect, parental substance dependence, or mental illness. Even though these events may have occurred long ago, they have the power to haunt us long into adulthood, and now we have found that they may even contribute to lifelong illness. Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, the founder/CEO of the Center for Youth Wellness and recipient of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Award, expands on similar topics as in her popular TED talk.

A masterpiece for our time
Revisado: 03-16-18
It was so inspiring to hear Dr. Nadine Burke Harris read her book. Her passion and wisdom comes across with every word. We will look back on this book as one of the most important cries for change to break the cycle of toxic stress. She covers the research better than most, and combines it with compelling stories of her patients and her own life. I’m just amazed that she had time to write this, considering all that she is doing to change the landscape of Adverse Childhood Experiences. This book is for everyone!!! My deepest gratitude to all of the people who have supported this work .

Historia
After 30 years of a healthy, rewarding, and exciting life, I wake up in a hospital bed unable to move. The neurosurgeon leans down and breaks the news: You won't regain any function in your body and you will never walk again. My medical insurance sends me home, discontinues my care, and tells me to "adapt to my new life". Little Big Steps is the story of the pivotal moments, interactions, and breakthroughs following the injury that turned my life upside down.

A story worth reading
Revisado: 01-11-18
I was engaged from the start. A life changing injury can happen to anyone. Hearing how Arash navigated the medical care system, the importance of the words people use, and the experience of insensitive caregivers, is so important for all to hear. I was so moved by his honesty and persistence, and by the role his parents and friends played in his healing journey from a tragic accident. He is an inspiration to anyone who finds themselves unable to live their life as they once had. It’s a book for people of all ages, and hopefully medical professionals will learn from it as well.
