I enjoyed this little piece. I didn’t really know what to expect; I thought i would learn some interesting history. The performers were very good; the conversation was very natural and casual and realistic. But in the end, it left me wanting. I wished that more historical facts could have been woven in. Since I was already interested in the conversation about the affair, I wish I could have learned more about what these women contributed to society. The end felt a bit flat. I think I would have enjoyed this in a theatrical setting but in an audiobook, I expect something different; literature; a well-defined climax. I’m having a hard time putting my finger on what left me wanting, so I hope my rambling is helpful to someone.

This book has my head spinning. I was always attracted to minimalism, but never actually engaged it. This approach to the "curation" of your belongings makes SO much more sense to me. It appeals to my environmentalist side, and also to my "be true to yourself" side. I plan to review it again, and start implementing.

Mostly I found this book to be interesting because it was about a famous girl who attended my husband's high school around the same time he was there.

Her writing was definitely clever, and I did find myself smiling here and there, but never laugh out loud. Most of the time it felt like a story with too few details to really get into it, and too few laughs for it to really be comedy.

I did find myself impressed with various aspects of her life, so it felt inspirational, but I don't think that is what she was intending.

I got through about 95% of it, and just couldn't bring myself to finish the rest.

Extremely compelling science with bad narration

While this book is so compelling to me that I've gone back to it over the years, but every time I listen to it, the narrator's sing-song voice drives me crazy. There is nothing natural about the reading whatsoever, and it nearly causes me to miss the point of what's being said or to discern it as non-chalantly as the reader seems to intend it. If you want to understand this book as seriously as the writer intended, do yourself a favor and read the hard-copy for yourself. This guy's voice is better intended for children's books than for science topics.

What did you like best about Go the F--k to Sleep? What did you like least?

The premise of this story is awesome; every parent has had a child use every manipulation under the sun to prevent falling asleep, and every parent has had the Nth degree of patience tested under those circumstances, where they just want their parenting day to be OVER. This story, however, was not the best way to capture that in a funny way. I smiled once, and I really WANTED to cry laughing. I'm glad it was short, because really, the title is the funniest thing about this story.

What was most disappointing about Adam Mansbach and Ricardo Cortes (cover illustration) ’s story?

It was not funny, even though the topic itself has the potential to be extremely funny.

What does Samuel L. Jackson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He brings awesome realism to the story--you can almost see him actually talking to the daughter and seeing his frustration.

Was Go the F--k to Sleep worth the listening time?

It was only 6 minutes, so it was no biggie, but I deleted it from my iTunes, which i have never done before.

Any additional comments?

I'm glad it was free.
