I just love this book. I give Mr Wheaton four stars due to multiple pronunciations different than mine own would be: Garriott, poseur, Glenmorangie, etc. Other than that, I think he’s a great narrator.

This Answers: What the Heck is Project Management?

What made the experience of listening to The Project Manager the most enjoyable?

I am not really into project management, and I couldn't figure out why people were so passionate about it. By writing a fable about how project management principles could be applied to life, Amy Hamilton's book helped me better to understand the PMP crowd.

What did you like best about this story?

It made Ashley seem like a real person. She didn't just have career goals, but she had family and pets and a life. She reminded me that I'm not the only one who sometimes makes it look like we have it all together at work, but then struggle with life stuff.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It kept me engaged, but it didn't take me to extremes. Although I may have laughed out loud and talked back to the narrator on a few occasions. (Does that count as extreme?)

Any additional comments?

Because I was listening to the book, I wasn't able to see illustrations. I know some audiobooks come with PDF downloads; perhaps that would be a useful addition to this book.

That said, I love that giving this book as a gift gives me an easy way to help out friends and co-workers who want to know more about project management, PMP, PMBOK, etc.

I didn't know what to expect, but I really enjoyed it! Each of the women had an inspiring story. I'm glad God has provided them with this opportunity to share their faith and stories of the power of God.

This series became more philosophical over the trilogy, much like the original three books in the Enderverse. Instead of Ender searching for meaning, we have Vin and Sazed. I enjoyed it, although I think it might be considered less interesting by some readers.

Chapter Breaks Are A Mess

Any additional comments?

I really like to use the sleep timer to listen to the end of chapter, but with this book the feature was almost useless. Each chapter was over an hour long and the audio chapter breaks were often *not* at the end of an actual book chapter. Grrr

Problems with the Narrator

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Oliver Wyman?

I would have cast Oliver Wyman, but I would have asked him to use all the same voices he did in the first two books -- especially his narrator voice. When I first started listening to the book, I thought they had gotten a new narrator to go along with the new author. But no. I was surprised to find out after a quick check of Audible.com that it *is* the same guy.

There is also the small issue of two lines in Spanish. Mr Wyman pronounced them HORRIBLY. They weren't all that integral to the plot, just banter between Jose, his daughter, and Keaton, but listening to him say the lines so poorly just made me cringe.

Which Translation Is It?

Total
3 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 11-03-08

Bottom Line: Blackstone's audio version is the Lorenzo Carcaterra translation. The same as you would read if you were to purchase "The Count of Monte Cristo" (Modern Library Classics) (Paperback) from Amazon.com

I actually haven't listened to this book yet, so I didn't want to rate it too high or too low. What I *did* want to do, however, was share some information with others who are interested in which translation they are reading. I learned from Wikipedia that a new translation was done for the 2006 Penguin Classics version of this book. Since this audio version was published in 2008, I wanted to know whether it followed the new translation. I looked here on Audible, Amazon, BN.com, and BlackstoneAudio.com. None of them have the information. By combining Amazon's "Search Inside this Book" with Audible's audio sample feature, I was able to listen to a portion while following along with the text on Amazon. This way I was able to confirm that it is the Lorenzo Carcaterra translation.

I hope that helps at least one other person...
