Robotic reading of a moderately useful text
Revisado: 03-13-25
The narrator kind of ruined this book with her robotic enunciations and inappropriately excessive use of glottal stops.

Historia
I had three dirty jobs until I quit them all and married a rich millionaire. Then, I wrote this book in order to teach every woman in the world that it is possible for you to marry a millionaire! If you are a struggling, poor, or middle-class woman that craves "the good life," then you need to learn and understand what the past generations of mothers always told their daughters: "You'll have a lifetime of poverty married to a poor man, and you'll have a lifetime of boredom married to a middle-class man, so marry Mr. Rich."

Sloppy editing & strange word choice but good tips
Revisado: 05-17-24
There are some obvious problems with how the audio was edited, with many spoken repetitions the editor forgot to cut out.
Plus the narrator sometimes mispronounces proper nouns like Cogna, Greenwich, Chappaqua.
And the author worked in lots of strangely specific ideas like “you must book the Waldorf Astoria for New Years Eve” - not my sense of humor and you have to have enough of a critical eye to tell when she’s being hyperbolic.
Plus her recounting the low points in her life include several overly-gratuitous descriptions of bodily fluids—those all could have been left out! We get it, you used these strategies to get out of the worst possible living conditions but we don’t need to know the gory details!
It feels like the (American) author hired a British ghostwriter, considering how many strange British-isms have worked their way into the prose (“pub”, “100 thousand “and plus””, etc). Felt incongruous.

Historia
On Heroes, Hero Worship, and The Heroic in History by Thomas Carlyle, is a collection of six lectures given in May 1840 about prominent historical figures. It sets out Carlyle's belief in the importance of heroic leadership, his view of how the world would be if powerful and inspired men were to have the power he thought they deserved. The collection includes figures ranging from religion to literature and politics, and the figures chosen were presented by Carlyle as archetypal examples of individuals who had dramatically impacted history for good or ill.

Robotic, grating voice
Revisado: 11-05-20
They couldn't have chosen a worse voice actor for this book. Imagine the dumbest sportscaster in the world trying to imitate Christopher Walken while also trying to emulate a robot. Would you cast that person to read classic British literature? Big fail here. Literally this work is better read by an actual text to voice robot.
