This reminds me of an 80’s mini series about rarified super powerful people doing grandiose things. Yawn.

Historia
The year is 1895. London is scared. A killer haunts the city's streets. The poor are hungry. Crime bosses are taking control. The police force is stretched to the breaking point. The rich turn to Sherlock Holmes, but the celebrated private detective rarely visits the densely populated streets of South London, where the crimes are sleazier and the people are poorer. In the dark corner of Southwark, victims turn to a man who despises Holmes, his wealthy clientele, and his showy forensic approach to crime: Arrowood.

My Title says it all. Boring. Couldn’t finish it. Dang good performance though. If only the story was.

Historia
When Graydon Carter was offered the editorship of Vanity Fair in 1992, he knew he faced an uphill battle—how to make the esteemed and long-established magazine his own. Not only was he confronted with a staff that he perceived to be loyal to the previous regime, but he arrived only a few years after launching Spy magazine, which gloried in skewering the celebrated and powerful—the very people Vanity Fair venerated.

Not an East Coast Literary Aficionado? Move on..
Revisado: 04-02-25
I grew up in this period and location of Writers and characters. Because of that familiarity, it was ok but I got bored with the flat monotone delivery and name droppy Clubby world. I have been a long time fan of Vanity Fair, but the inside scoops became boring and repetitive. I moved on with several hours to spare.

Historia
1468. A young priest, Christopher Fairfax, arrives in a remote Exmoor village to conduct the funeral of his predecessor. The land around is strewn with ancient artifacts - coins, fragments of glass, human bones - which the old parson used to collect. Did his obsession with the past lead to his death? Fairfax becomes determined to discover the truth. Over the course of the next six days, everything he believes - about himself, his faith, and the history of his world - will be tested to destruction.

Thrown for a loop
Revisado: 04-02-25
It starts when you realize that something is not right here. What you think you are reading is something else. As the plot unfolds, you may, like I did, find yourself grasping for purchase with all the back stories. I'd give it a shot. The performance is excellent but by the end, I was pretty much lost.

Historia
The Naval Service of the Honorable East India Company, popularly known as the Bombay Marine, operated in romantic areas in perilous times. From the Indian Ocean to the South China Sea, from Calcutta to Canton, the Company ships were famous for their speed and daring. The "Bombay Buccaneers" who sailed them were the stuff of legend. For Percival Merewether, 1806 would be a year to remember.

Historia
On July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed in the South Pacific by a Japanese submarine. An estimated 300 men were killed upon impact; close to 900 sailors were cast into the Pacific Ocean, where they remained undetected by the navy for nearly four days and nights. Battered by a savage sea, they struggled to stay alive, fighting off sharks, hypothermia, and dementia. By the time rescue arrived, all but 317 men had died. The captain's subsequent court-martial left many questions unanswered

Revisado: 08-29-24
A Story of the Sea that will stay with you forever. Even though it was horrific, it is a Story that will drag you through every emotion possible. Mine was mostly outrage at how the Navy handled this mess of their own making.

What a Total Dud of a Book
Revisado: 07-25-24
Droning dead pan reading of a really badly written novel. Loaded with adjectival clunky sentences and I can’t judge the story because I couldn’t bear to continue listening.

Historia
For more than two centuries, the White House in Washington, DC, has been the stage for some of the most climactic moments in American history. Its walls and portraits have witnessed fierce power struggles, history-altering decisions, shocking scandals, and intimate moments among the First Family, their guests, and the staff.

Lots of interesting new details and stories
Revisado: 06-24-24
While the narration jumps around a lot between timelines, the backstories and characters are vividly portrayed. Most Enjoyed this new information on The Bay of Pigs. Fascinating. I recommend this to everyone, especially History buffs.
