Historia
Amina al-Sirafi should be content. After a storied and scandalous career as one of the Indian Ocean’s most notorious pirates, she’s survived backstabbing rogues, vengeful merchant princes, several husbands, and one actual demon to retire peacefully with her family to a life of piety, motherhood, and absolutely nothing that hints of the supernatural.

Phenomenal
Revisado: 06-14-24
All of my favorite things in one book - history, myth, fantasy, legend, badass characters, and a setting I know nothing about, but the author is more than happy to share. The narrators are witty and expressive, doing a fine job to bring life and emotion to each character and scene. If you have any interest in Islamic fantasy and/or Yemeni myth, you gotta read this

Historia
A mind-blind scholar outwits the mages who disdain him. A gold mage must secure a bank vault from a monster capable of obliterating entire cities. An aging basketweaver wakes up one morning to find a brand new river in front of her house. A palace-sized octopus seeks to defend his city from a living fortress of bone—if he can get his arms to cooperate. In these twenty-four short stories set in the world of Mage Errant, John Bierce explores the murky depths of history, forgotten corners of Ithos and beyond, and the strangest reaches of magic itself.

Excellent addition to the world!
Revisado: 03-13-24
This series of short stories is an excellent addition to Anastis and the other worlds in the Mage Errant series. Answers a bunch of minor questions raised in the series and creates a few more. I cannot wait for more in this universe!

Excellent Story!
Revisado: 02-10-24
Really enjoyed this book. The narrator was very good and it was really nice to have fantasy from another POV. Characters felt like real people where they didn't know how the story would end. Can't wait for another installment!

Historia
The remote island of Masquapaug has not seen a dragon in many generations—until fifteen-year-old Anequs finds a dragon’s egg and bonds with its hatchling. Her people are delighted, for all remember the tales of the days when dragons lived among them and danced away the storms of autumn, enabling the people to thrive. To them, Anequs is revered as Nampeshiweisit—a person in a unique relationship with a dragon.

Historia
Punching well above their weight, Max and Markham set out to bring down a sinister organisation founded in the future—with a suspicious focus on the past. Max's focus is staying alive long enough to reunite with Leon and Matthew, alternately helped and hindered by St Mary's—who aren't always the blessing they like to think they are. But non-stop leaping around the timeline—from witnessing Magna Carta to disturbing a certain young man with a penchant for gunpowder—is beginning to take its toll. Is Max going mad? Or are the ghosts of the past finally catching up with her?

Lots of twists and dips and plenty of excitement for our plucky heroine! It was so much fun and kept my attention the entire time. Zara Ramm is equally amazing (as usual). Another phenomenal installment

Historia
From flying to war to becoming a living playground for 30 children, a dragon called Dragon is growing in all sorts of unexpected ways these days. Never mind. With his signature wit and inimitable style, and the expedient of occasionally throwing his beautiful black Princess, Dragon Rider and best friend straight at his troubles, this Dragon is prepared to seize his war-torn world by the scruff of the neck and shake it into shape. It's not as if the world has a choice in the matter.

Great Finish, if A Little Hasty
Revisado: 11-12-21
Like the two that came before it, Thunder O Dragon is witty, emotional, full of excellent world building and real life relationships, and more shenanigans from the Princess and her Dragon. My only issue with it is the end to the big climax is weirdly hasty and no one explains how Dragon knows to call someone's bluff (leading to the immediate resolution of a plotline). Other than that, phenomenal story.

Historia
In a darkly fantastical debut set in modern-day Britain, magic users control everything: wealth, politics, power - and you. If you’re not one of the ultimate one-percenters - the magical elite - you owe them 10 years of service. This is the darkly decadent world of Gilded Cage. In its glittering milieu move the all-powerful Jardines and the everyday Hadleys. The families have only one thing in common: Each has three children. But their destinies entwine when one family enters the service of the other. They will all discover whether any magic is more powerful than the human spirit.

Phenomenal Worldbuilding, Slow Burn
Revisado: 01-15-20
A good and very interesting world! The author sets up an incredibly complex, but believable alternate reality with very real characters. However, the narrative is clearly just leading up to the next book. The climax leaves you wondering why it wasn't even a little resolved before the end of the book. If you're willing to wait for the real thick of the book until book 2, then you'll absolutely love this novel.

Slow to Start, but Finishes Powerfully
Revisado: 06-05-19
Holy crap, this book! It starts off slowly, but throughout the book it rises into a rushing crescendo. you find yourself rooting for the protagonists at every turn and hating the world that's been built around them. A remarkable book and I can't wait for more!
