Could not have loved this more!

I’m a huge EH fan, so I started this book knowing that I would probably be a fan, but I didn’t think it would hit me so hard. I’m trying to think of something I didn’t love, and can’t come up with anything. The characters, the setting, the story, the secondary characters, all were wonderful.

I keep forgetting that Meghan Quinn is not it for me.

Why do I keep buying these books?! Unlikable characters, and ridiculous world building. I need a way to block this author so I don’t fall for her covers and blurbs.

Of all the terrible characters I’ve read in this author’s books, Brooks has to be the worst. I don’t want to meet this guy on the street, let alone read a book about him!

I wasn’t sure about this book, but I am so glad bought it. I couldn’t stop listening, it was so touching, and well written, I am a huge fan!

Not my first Lauren Layne, but one of my favorites

I almost didn’t download this, even though I love Lauren Layne, because I have a hard time with books without spice. The fact that this was a second chance story, made the lack of spice completely work for me. I’m so glad I let my love of Lauren Layne override my distaste for spice-less books, because this book was awesome. I felt like I was along for the ride with two imperfect people that are perfect for each other.

Nobody writes love stories like a Lucy Parker! Great characters, story, plot, setting, everything. I can’t say enough good things!

The female lead was so weirdly not likable. I feel like the underlying political story was written by freshman poly sci students, the secondary characters were not at all sympathetic. The story was twice as long as it needed to be. Overall it was a mess.

Even a less than perfect Lucy Parker is great!

I love Lucy Parker, and I love the audible versions, I have listened to each of her books multiple times. I really liked the story of Matthias and Pet, I especially loved that we got to see a little bit more of Dominic and Sylvie. I do think that Lucy Parker tried to put too much story into one book, but overall I really enjoyed it. As far as the narration, Matthias is a very distinct character, and the voice for him is equally distinct, once I got used to it, it was fine. But it did take some getting used to.

A 12 year olds dream man

Seriously, did the author poll a group of sixth graders to find out what their dream man was, and then make him the MMC? The book is OK, it’s entertaining, but I just kept rolling my eyes every time Theo was described, or every time he Did almost anything. (with the exception of his side hustle, and if I had to hear the word side hustle, one more time, I think I would’ve gouged my eyes out.)

Unexpectedly good, different historical romance.

To say this is a slow burn, would be a total understatement. There’s no heat in what I would describe as a “sweet “ romance, which I generally avoid. I’m glad I didn’t know that going in, because I would’ve missed a really good story. I loved that all of the characters were flawed, I love how real it felt, just an overall excellent story.

I wanted to like it.

Full disclosure, I did not finish this book, I have 2 1/2 hours left, and I just can’t do it. I loved the first book in this series (Not So Meet Cute), and this made me not even like those characters. In fact, I didn’t like anybody in this book.

Character stuff aside, the business decisions made in these books make me crazy. You can be an altruistic billionaire without turning a very historic, very expensive renovation into low income housing. Not even the kindest company would do something that stupid! And focusing so much on sustainability, right down to reminding us that they use aluminum water containers, and then jetting around the country on a private jet, or having a single character live in a massive mansion, is the height of hypocrisy.

Rant over, I was so tempted to return this book, but I did read/listen to almost the entire thing.
