This was a well researched and written account of a time and events left out of our history books. The characters were fully developed and I felt as though I really understood them. Although nearly two centuries have passed, events in the United States today make me think that anger and violence is still with us.

Historia
Ava thought her job as a librarian at the Library of Congress would mean a quiet, routine existence. But an unexpected offer from the US military has brought her to Lisbon with a new mission: posing as a librarian while working undercover as a spy gathering intelligence. Meanwhile, in occupied France, Elaine has begun an apprenticeship at a printing press run by members of the Resistance. It’s a job usually reserved for men, but in the war, those rules have been forgotten. Yet she knows that the Nazis are searching for the press and its printer in order to silence them.

I felt like I was there
Revisado: 01-14-24
This book made me feel what it was like to be in the French resistance. The courage, hardships, sacrifice, constant fear of those brave souls is something most of us have never witnessed. I felt a compassion and admiration that Ms. Martin’s writing brought out in me. The desperation of the refugees was made real through the personal story of a Jewish mother and her child. As I read, I could not help but relate it to today’s world and feel compassion for people in those same positions.
