Oh, the baggage!
I can't love you...but I do
Meddling family

Good amount of spice.
GREAT witty banter!
Wonderful supporting cast of characters.
Plot kept me guessing.
I picked up the second book in this series as a "Blind Date with a Book" and two chapters in decided that I needed to experience the series in order. I'm definitely glad that I came back and listened to this one first.
I'm not usually a fan of stories with kids in them, even if the kids are old enough to be self-sufficient. This book, I thoroughly enjoyed what the kid added to the story. All around, I thoroughly enjoyed the writing, the performance, and the entire cast of this series. I've been on a dark romance or reverse harem kick for a while, and this was a great break that still had enough going on for me to listen almost straight through. Definitely recommend!

I searched for her for two years. Each day felt like a lifetime. I was losing my mind, imagining all the things that were being done to her. But I finally found her. And now, it's time to bring her home. They took her from me, and they're going to pay. I'm getting Alina back, and then we're going to set the world on fire and watch them burn.

Repetitive disappointment to end the series
Revisado: 02-02-25
I'd been so looking forward to the end of this series, but this book disappointed. The characters said, "I wouldn't want it any other way" enough that it started making me roll my eyes.
It's not awful, but there was so much build up, and it just seemed to fizzle.
I'd still recommend the series overall, but it's not something I'd listen to again.
The first two books were the best.

Historia
The man who bought me is sinfully gorgeous—a tatted-up wall of muscle who assures me that I'm safe with him. He can't let me go. Not yet anyway. He and his brothers need my help to find someone. I agree to help them, not having any idea it's going to lead us into a nest of vipers. If their venom doesn't get me… his will. Lines blur between the two of us, and I no longer feel like it's all for show. Because the truth is, Danil owns me… every single part of me. It turns out being owned by the Bratva boss isn't such a bad thing after all.

Sladkaya...
Revisado: 01-23-25
I loved this addition to the series, and appreciated the new plot lines it introduced. The narrators both did an excellent job.
My only real issue was that the MMC called the MFC "sladkaya," which is Russian for "sweetheart." The problem with this was that the narrator pronounced it as "slut-kay-a." I don't know what the proper pronunciation is, and this may be correct, but I wish a different endearment had been used because it always sounded like he was calling her a slut. It kept popping me out of the story.

Historia
Roman Melnikov is a deadly man in an expensive suit. I know what lies beneath the façade—the scars and tattoos that hint at the man he really is. He came here to find his sister, and his search led him to my dad and his friends. We both want to take them down, and the only way to do that is together. I had no idea how dangerous it would be, or that by the end of it, we'd all be covered in blood. Loving Roman is dangerous, but I can't let him go. His path is leading him straight to hell, and it looks like I'm coming along for the ride.

Minimally bloody Bratva, good spice
Revisado: 01-19-25
I enjoyed the connection between the main characters. MMC is a bratva boss, and there are scenes where he kills, but nothing was overly graphic.
I especially enjoyed the interactions between the 5 brothers of the bratva. This books doesn't end on a cliffhanger, but the story does continue, and I'm looking forward to learning more about the other brothers. Each brother has a unique personality, and this story makes you want to learn more about all of them.
Narration was great! The Russian accent sounded authentic. There were a hendful of spots where I think maybe the emphasis was a bit off, but nothing that took me out of the story. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a not-so-gory bratva with good spice.

Historia
Our first meeting was at a nightclub, and it was something straight out of my most romantic fantasies. My ovaries exploded at the sight of the Russian God. And by God, I mean he was ripped, tall, dark, and deadly attractive. There were enough sparks between us to light up a city. Then an explosion blasted through the nightclub, and we got trapped together for three hours, sharing our most personal details...everything but our names. Two years later, our second meeting is the complete opposite of the first. It's clear Misha Petrov, a Russian enforcer for the bratva, despises me.

Mafia college?
Revisado: 01-13-25
When the MCs reconnect, it's at a mafia training center, basically mafia college. This was incredibly hard for me to just go along with. I just couldn't get my mind to settle around the idea of people from different mafia families coming together and studying the same tactics at the same place. I imagine the mafia training their own in the family. How are you supposed to overpower the other families if you all have the same knowledge & methods?
I did listen to the whole story, because I didn't hate it, as hard as it was for me to accept the school premise. It was just meh for me. Nearly every scene felt like it could've been longer with more detail.
Not for me, but if you can deal with the crazy mafia college premise, it's not a bad story, although I'd probably recommend reading instead of listening.
The FMC is supposed to be Italian, but sounds Russian. The MMC is Russian, but sounds American with a few Russian words thrown in.
Overall, between the performance and the premise, it was very difficult for me to stay in the world of this story.

Valeri Medvedev is a man I would happily fall on my knees to worship. I had no idea he was a dangerous Bratva boss. All I saw was the sexy smile, the dimple on his cheek, and the body that made my mouth water. I was blinded by him…and then I found out the truth. He's dangerous. He's a killer. And I'm the one he wants.

Story ends half-way through
Revisado: 01-08-25
As much as I've enjoyed this trilogy, this final book just didn't do it for me. I never felt any sense of climactic danger. The bad guys never felt fully developed or like a true threat after the introduction of the MMC.
After the bad guys were defeated, there's another 2.5or more hours of just buying a house, getting married, having a kid. Epilogue-type stuff with no pivotal plot.
This book felt very anticlimactic. If I want 3hrs of HEA, I'll choose something from the contemporary genre.
The voice actor/actress, were both excellent, but the story wasn't very engaging past about the 3/4 mark.

She's back. We were kids the last time I saw her, but my innocent crush from childhood is full-grown now. And it's not so innocent anymore. She's a breath of fresh air from the series of one-night stands since being drafted into the NHL. I've only got one shot with her, and I'm not taking it for granted. I may give her the passion she's been craving, but she's the intimacy I've waited for my whole life.

Overall a funny and enjoyable listen
Revisado: 10-20-24
I really enjoyed some of the comedic moments in this book. I enjoyed the interactions between hero & heroine. I wish there had been a bit more about the heroine's life growing up. There were 'case notes' scattered through the story, but I didn't feel like they gave enough insight into what life was like for the heroine growing up.
Also, there were a few times where I wasn't sure which character was speaking, or if the character was speaking aloud or just thinking. That could've been done a little better in the narration by using inflection.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and will listen to the rest of the series.

Maddie isn’t looking to be saved. She knows the only person you can count on is yourself. Her moral compass might not point true north these days - but at least she’s still standing. The military taught Tyler about loyalty. Being there for your brothers is the only thing that matters - but when it mattered most, he wasn’t.

A beautiful train wreck, in the best way!
Revisado: 09-19-24
Wow. Just...wow!
This book is STUNNING!
It's not like other romance novels I've read or listened to. The narration from both main characters comes in a stream of consciousness flow. The male lead, in particular, is so amazingly damaged. I mean that in two ways. I mean it in the common way, that he's been through a lot and suffers the physical and emotional scars from it. I also mean it in a much deeper way.
You're in the male lead's mind as everything is crumbling inside and around him. You experience his trauma with him with how realistically his trauma is presented in his stream of consciousness. You fall apart as he does and neither of you can find the straws to grasp at.
Both of these main characters are so beautifully flawed.
I ached for them.
I laughed with them, when their wry humor showed, usually as a defense mechanism.
And I rooted for them. I was trapped in the spiral with them, and holding my breath, hoping for them to find the strength overcome.
It was a humbling experience.
The male author also serves as the male narrator, and it's truly perfection! Because he'd written the character and knew his exact intent, there were no moments in the narration when I thought something should've been performed differently.
Before knowing that the narrator was also the author, I was recommending this audiobook to a friend and said that the male narrator sounded like he was narrating his own autobiography with how comfortable and familiar he seemed with the character he was reading for.
There's really not one thing about this book I didn't love.
I'm glad that I listened to the audiobook before reading the text. I highlight in my Kindle, but this is the first time I've ever highlighted clips in an audiobook. There were moments that were painful in their poignancy. There were moments that were funny in a dry, sarcastic way. And there were moments that I clipped because when I listen to the clips later, I'll feel all of the emotions that I did with this book all over again and be wrecked, in the best possible way.

Turns out my stepbrother owes the Cosa Nostra money, and I'm being used to repay his debt to Angelo Rizzo. Do I have a choice? No. Not when it comes to matters concerning the Cosa Nostra. Three hours later, I have a new shiny wedding ring on my finger and a husband I'm terrified of standing by my side. Yep, my life just took a turn for the worse.

Good Naration, Story Needed More
Revisado: 09-16-24
I enjoyed the narration, but the story itself needed some filling out. Everything resolved too quickly and easily. The author could've drawn out the drama and made the book longer. That said, I enjoyed the story. It wasn't bad, I just wish it had been longer.

Best of the series so far!
Revisado: 09-14-24
Each book in this series has been better than the last. The story and the reading improves with every book. I especially enjoyed that this book has more chapters from the ML's perspective than the previous books.
My one complaint about this reading is that the female narrator, who has been the narrator of all 3 books so far, hasn't been consistent with her voicing of the characters. Even within just this book, she would voice side characters differently from chapter to chapter. Otherwise, it was a good read. I feel like she's improved her performance with each book.
