Clever construct
Revisado: 02-06-24
Could not get past female narrator approach - petulant tone for primary; other characters in odd clipped tone

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

A refreshing dose of perspective
Revisado: 07-11-21
Well written and exploring alternatives- to life, to choices - against a backdrop of hopelessness, Haig successfully integrates lofty philosophical paradigms and practical perspectives into a crisp narrative and series of plots that are magically brought to life by Mulligan. Well done!

For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. A treasure exploring life
Revisado: 05-16-21
A heartbreaking story encompassing the range of humanity and emotion against an incredible backdrop of the swamp and those who live around it in a unique ecosystem. Incredibly powerful descriptions of everything from bugs mating to the pain of a frightened child. Gifted writing. Narration was exquisite. Typically i find switching voices annoying but this was balanced and brilliant.

Insightful, compelling storyline
Revisado: 07-07-20
Insightful perspective on caste and gender told from the perspective of a highly intelligent, determined woman who was truly defined by the accident of birth. Great dialogue, excellent narration that navigated multiple voices and emotions without appearing trite. Goes beyond a traditional “fairy tale” script

Interesting not compelling
Revisado: 03-23-20
Great story idea, seemed a bit drawn out with a recurring plot that got old. The narrator had a difficult pattern to follow, dropping syllables dramatically which made it hard to both hear and follow, conveyed the same drama around every phrase so didnt help illustrate the story’s tensions
