I've read and enjoyed many books by this author and each time, I've concluded that much of it is filling space--as if the author feels she hasn't described or explained scenes and situations to her satisfaction. In other words, taking too long to get to the point or making the point several times. In spite of that, the storylines and development are good--other than the excessive wordiness and sometimes redundancy.

Rosalyn Landor is incredible, as usual!!

Good start on a new series. Has a few new twists and different story line than other paranormal shifter stories which keeps the reader interested. I would, however, advise adding a bit more "meat" to the character development in future stories as well as a little more description to surroundings, etc......something that helps the reader's imagination to picture the story unfolding in their minds. It's okay as it is but has the potential to be so much more. The same goes for Ms. Day's narration. Her narration is good in that the listener can differentiate between the male and female characters and she does not just "read" the story but injects feeling into it.... but the potential is there to be so much more. She's a little "youthful" sounding which makes her characters appeal to a younger set of readers but the sexual nature of the story would not be for the YA (young adult/teenage/pre-teen) crowd . Also, she pauses oddly throughout. As with most narrators, it takes a chapter or two to get used to their voices and how they read but her pauses threw me off for a bit. Distracting, but not enough to make me stop listening. All in all, I enjoyed the story and would happily read/listen to the rest of the series.

Well done!

This is Book 1 of a series that starts out much the same as others set in London in times that include the ton, dukes, ladies, "polite society" and all that goes with that era. BUT....the It involves a "not so polite" side of London society in the 1800s which is dark and ever so slightly dangerous. Lots of intrigue, twists and mystery with a slight bit of romance (but don't expect sexy scenes). All that and a happy ending, too!

It always amazes me when authors have all these amazing stories to tell and do it in such a way as to keep you fully involved and anxiously awaiting the next chapter! Great start to what looks to be a great series! Great job, Sarah Noel and Vicki-Jo Eva.

Very good narration but with a little room for improvement where male voices are concerned.

Not my usual style of reading but ended up relaxing and letting the fantasy story take over.

First, let me say that I listened to this series out of sequence....Part 4 (Sheriff - Colin and Stephanie's story) should be listened to/read first since (Spoiler Alert!!!!!) they are already "married" with kids in Part 1. Part 2 and 3 are in order.

Secondly, while I agree with some reviewers' opinions that the story and narration is a bit rough, I do think both improved as the stories went on. Narrator had a habit of emphasizing the wrong words at times which throws the reader off and is distracting and a bit "staccato", however, that improves. Character development could be better, story line is good but could use more clarification at times...reader stays interested but don't let your mind wander trying to figure out who someone is or what's going on or you'll be rewinding to catch up. Love the humor! I laughed out loud at times!

I'm having a difficult time with heroines in this series who are sassy, insecure, whiney, obnoxious, childish, make idiotic decisions, puff out their chests and scream "I am woman and you can't boss me around"..... and STILL end up with the perfect hunks. SMH Not realistic at all. (The worst was the 9th book in this series -- Kit and Jules. Ugh). Ms James, please put a little integrity and common sense into your heroines, at least. Having said that, each of the stories are different and keep you interested ... just a bit too angsty internal dialogue at times. Great narrators....Callie Dalton's slightly childish squeaky voice was perfect for the spoiled heroines and Jacob Morgan is always great.

First, let me say that Maxine Mitchell's acting/reading skills are the best--and for this heroine, she was probably the best choice of narrators. Her angsty, shaky voice suited the impulsive, headstrong, (sometimes to a nasty fault), sometimes whiny and indecisive, angry-most-of-the-time heroine.....so much so she isn't very likeable. Hard to identify with this hardnosed badass who can't stay out of danger/pain/trouble, leaving the reader/listener wondering why the H wants anything to do with her. I find that to be true with many romances these days. This story didn't elicit any feelings or emotions or sympathy/empathy. I powered thru this series but it won't be on my "read again" list.

The story itself was busy, sometimes a little disjointed so that it didn't flow as well as it could have. Favorite characters: Chang, Doyle and Nova. Author kept the series focused on Kit Colbana and her different "missions" as well as her past-- but I would've liked to see stories expand to others.

I think this series may not be for me so I'm not sure I'm gonna make it thru this whole series. There are too many issues that distract from the story. I'm sure that's why it's in the Audible Plus section. Kylie Stewart does better with duo narration. Can't tell when she switches to the male so it's distracting trying to figure out who's talking. Also, her misplaced emphasis doesn't help. When you're trying to figure out what the author meant, you're not listening to the story. I'm sure that'll improve the more she narrates. This series is a prime candidate for a re-write with new narrators...and put it in the erotica section.

Book 2 - The Deadly Art of Love and Murder

This is the second book in a cozy mystery series with Caribou King as our main mystery-solving sleuth. The story is set in Coho Bay, AK, where our heroine, Cara, owns and operates an art gallery and manages real estate in the area. She finds a dead body in one of the cabins she manages and the mystery ensues. Toss in a little romance with two men vying for her attention and you have a nice, cozy mystery to enjoy.

Michelle Babb, the solo narrator, is a little speedy so sentences run into each other occasionally. But all in all, very good job.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the narrator, and am reviewing it voluntarily.

Book 1 - the Deadly Art of Deception

This book is the first in a cozy mystery series with Caribou King as our main mystery-solving sleuth. The story is set in Coho Bay, AK, where our heroine, Cara, owns and operates an art gallery. Cara's friend was supposedly killed by a bear but there's a question as to whether that's how he was killed or was it murder? Then another murder occurs. Cozy mysteries are meant to be fun and relaxing and this one fits that bill.

Michelle Babb, the solo narrator, is quite talented but sometimes it's hard to tell which character is speaking. I slowed it down a notch to 0.9x (didn't have to on Book 2) because she tends to read quickly and, in order to catch the quick changes between characters, the slower speed helped. The only other comment I would mention is the occasional monotone as she is reading internal monologue and male parts. (Again, this improves in Book 2)

This book contains adult language, explicit sex, rape, abuse, human trafficking.

While this story has many dark, sad aspects and is difficult to read at times, it's a short read with an HEA.

Several things going on here:

1. This book was short so obviously, character development, storyline could have been better.
2. Redundant catch phrases which may have been because things got lost in the translation,
3. Audio editing didn't catch repeated lines.
4. Abrupt changes are a little distracting--one minute they're in Cyprus and the next, she's been "servicing men" in Russia for the last 6 weeks and the hero is searching for his wife who calls him and tells him where she is -- how does she have his number and when did they get married?

A virtuous schoolteacher hires a surly, older bodyguard to help her rescue her nephew. She's fighting to hang on to her virginity and detests her offender/fellow rescuer but as the story goes on, she relents. More emphasis on the attraction between them in the beginning would have helped but such a short novel doesn't allow much elaboration. A quick jump ahead puts our heroine in the clutches of a human trafficking operation.

Many twists and turns in this story and it isn't always cohesive or flowing but it does have an HEA.

Narrator was good with a deep, pleasing voice and was pretty good with the female voice and Russian/Greek accents but needs to watch the monotone.
