Historia
The ninth floor. Nine armies, each led by rich and powerful aliens from across the galaxy. Each team has one objective: to capture and hold the castle at the very center of the battlefield. Strategy, alliances, pitched battles, and, of course, betrayal ... It all makes for great fun and even greater television. After all, none of these powerful aliens really die when they’re playing war. Except this time. This time, winner takes all. Those who fall, stay in the ground.

it's worse than the Iron Tangle
Revisado: 03-26-25
I love DCC, despite the Iron Tangle. but Matt did it again.... he connected everything together too well. I spent most of the book thinking "who the f is this". and "wth is happening ????" he overdid the plot. he used every scrap of every character (literally hundreds of characters). and Charlie'd them all together on a crazy whiteboard.
how do you do this to yourself? Man? you have Us, we love Carl, we love Donut, we love EVERYONE. f u all, you will not break me. WE ARE THERE!
STOP TRYING SO FING HARD! it's unintelligible. I and many others will need to go watch a hour and a half YouTuber breakdown of all the rat's nest of convoluted ness.
this is an insidious flaw to have as well, because most people will not say what I'm saying, because it's admitting they are not 160 IQ with a photographic memory.
I'm telling you... well over 20 hours of the novel, we were lost, if not with what was going on, with who this random character was who appeared for a few pages in a book we read YEARS AGO, it was information overload.
also the levels are now meaningless. unless you have 300 maxed stats, the spellbook bloat has taken away the litrpg aspect of the novels.
stop doing so much research on your stuff. it's too much. do you want to look smart? or do you want to give Us a good story?

She’s determined to bring back cheer to The Wandering Inn - as well as Christmas! But the coldest time of the year leads to strange encounters with a number of people. At the same time, Ryoka Griffin is far from what she would consider to be “home”. Deep in the north, in the city of Invrisil, she finds herself as the guest of Magnolia Reinhart.

can't do it.
Revisado: 12-12-24
he says "Frickin" instead of dropping the F bomb. and breaks fourth wall when about to tell you the stats. "if you don't want to hear it you can just skip 30 seconds ahead" over and over. wasting more time. just say what you have to say.
we listen to audiobooks on the go with earbuds. skipping forward is not so easy, whole thing is completely juvenile. even with Jeff Hayes narrating. even for 1 credit for 54 hours. this is so sackless. I can't do it.

Historia
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

so much better than defiance of the Fall
Revisado: 11-19-24
it's insane how much better this book is than defiance of the fall. I made it to book 9 of that poop show. this is even better than He who fights with monsters (going on 1 book to judge, obviously don't know how this will play out)
it has heart and soul and doesn't spend pages moralizing. it just does the thing. it delivers in all areas, like a multivitamin.

Historia
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

really falling off, big time
Revisado: 10-21-24
this novel felt like it was supposed to be 30 hours long, and the Author didn't re listen to all the previous Bob books and just went to his wiki and wrote an inane chapter or two on literally EVERY possible plot angle or character. then about well over halfway into the book, he realized he had nothing solid, and started to focus on the flying squirrel (dragon) sub plot. things then became bearable. but the Author is Original, biological Bob, and so lacks the sack to give any stakes whatsoever with meaningful violence or impact to the story. (this has previously been an endearing nerd tick, because he had a vision and a muse to take Us somewhere interesting, that Muse felt silent this time)
even Riker is done busterizing anyone. it all feels like a tired, disjointed blob of "Meh" the one really interesting thread (the SPOILER I won't mention) WAS BARELY MINED AT ALL.
imho, Author should get inspired before he attempts another Bob, because output like this will destroy the Golden Goose.
I really enjoyed Heavens River, because it had something to say. this novel feels like it was done because there was a contract stipulation that it must be done. Even Ray Porter couldn't find anything to bite into. might as well have used a B narrator. there's too many series out there that accelerate into something to bother with this Rn, honestly.
this doesn't come from a troll who likes nothing, I LOVE things like Red Rising and he who fights with monsters, etc.
this is meant as a warning shot or wake up call to get inspired again, to find something that gives you goosebumps, and try to transfer those goosebumps to Us, the Listener/Reader.
this novel suffers from a replicative drift, so severe, it's not a Bob anymore.

horrible first 45 minutes
Revisado: 06-07-24
I left a 1 star review after first 45 minutes. then saw someone else said kids died and were tortured, I forgot it was a scifi book, I bought this year's ago. listened more.
it's actually really interesting, not finished yet, but wow. worst opening 45 minutes I have heard in some time. narrator takes a while to grow on you.

meh. good fodder if you need lots of listening hours
Revisado: 05-30-24
quality meh. like a fine French chocolate. sturdy. flows well, you can tell it took 8 drafts, it's flawless vapidity. perfect for a TNT show for mind numbed boomer audiences who dig CSI.
but the author has talent and works hard. if he were to dig deeper and stop trying to make a better widget, capable of a masterpiece. or just find a meaningful story, and adapt it. sculpt it.

Historia
In the highly anticipated finale to the New York Times best-selling trilogy, dictators, prophets, and tensions rise. In a world that’s conquered death, will humanity finally be torn asunder by the immortal beings it created? Citra and Rowan have disappeared. Endura is gone. It seems like nothing stands between Scythe Goddard and absolute dominion over the world scythedom. With the silence of the Thunderhead and the reverberations of the Great Resonance still shaking the earth to its core, the question remains: Is there anyone left who can stop him?

Revisado: 03-24-24
series really fell off. repetitively leaning on the setting and the novelty of gleanings and the Thunderhead being cool. it's like a story all set up, ready to go... but it lacks the I.Q. to take the next step, so it repeats itself.
also the villain sucks. extremely comical. weaksauce.
you did a good job with Jerry, though. I was rooting for the Thunderhead/Jerry/Tolliver relationship. and when the Thunderhead touched Tolliver's face it was a highpoint in the book. but you lacked the sack to go further.
good Job with Jerry though, I was ready to return the book when I knew a Tran was in it. I rolled my eyes a few times but you broke through and did the brokeback mountain thing (transfered empathy for a character a reader hates through the bloodbrain barrier by force.)

1 dimensional
Revisado: 12-21-23
I doubt Larry wrote more than a paragraph or two. it's basically Taken. Will give you some small thrills if you're a parent.
but it drags on, same theme. endlessly. it's lazy. like it was written by LRH as a giant first draft and the pieces weren't connected together properly.
no group dynamic. it's just Taken: find my Baby edition.
actual MHI books are an auto buy for me but after this one, not so much.
write your own books, dude, at least in the main MHI line.
