Historia
Early one morning, less than a month after her 18th birthday, Alexandrina Victoria is roused from bed with the news that her uncle William IV has died, and she is now queen of England. The men who run the country have doubts about whether this sheltered young woman, who stands less than five feet tall, can rule the greatest nation in the world. Surely she must rely on her mother and her venal advisor, Sir John Conroy, or her uncle, the Duke of Cumberland, who are all too eager to relieve her of the burdens of power.

Historia
When she was suddenly given the opportunity of a new life in rural Jutland, journalist and archetypal Londoner Helen Russell discovered a startling statistic: the happiest place on earth isn't Disneyland but Denmark, a land often thought of by foreigners as consisting entirely of long, dark winters, cured herring, Lego and pastries. What is the secret to their success? Are happy Danes born or made?

Not for me
Revisado: 09-04-23
If you like having to turn your child over to government day care soon after birth so both you and your husband can go to work to pay more than half your wages in taxes, and have long, cold dreary months which give you a chance to light candles to give you a ‘hygge’ feel, and find it hard to have a conversation with strangers you meet because they tend to stick to their own, etc etc, then I say move to Denmark and join the happiest people on earth where alcoholism is rampant and antidepressants are commonplace.

Disappointing
Revisado: 08-21-23
I’ve read everything MHC wrote and this is the first book of hers that I’ve thought was boring. I didn’t like the caricature sounding voices of the narrator either. Not worth the credit.

Good story
Revisado: 03-24-23
Since 911, I have been hesitant to read any books that might evoke the same feelings I personally felt after the attack. So saying that, I hadn’t read the other books in this series which was a mistake on my part. Although this book stands alone, I think I needed to read the others so I could have learned more of each of the character’s backgrounds to see how they related to each other in their operations and also how their characters have grown in the series. Saying all that, I did enjoy the book. The narrator has a little trouble with women’s voices but that’s totally understandable and didn’t hold that against him in any way, especially after doing so well with the male characters voices. My suggestion is to read the whole series in order.

In her compelling, beautifully crafted novel, New York Times best-selling author Marie Bostwick celebrates friendships old and new - and the unlikely threads that sometimes lead us exactly where we need to go. Christmas is fast approaching, and New Bern, Connecticut, is about to receive the gift of a new pastor, hired sight unseen to fill in while Reverend Tucker is on sabbatical. Meanwhile, Margot Matthews’ friend, Abigail, is trying to matchmake, even though Margot has all but given up on romance.

Great book
Revisado: 08-24-21
I’ve had this book in my library for years but decided to try it and was totally surprised at how good it was. It was interesting from beginning to end. Not much drama, but a book that makes you feel good for having read it. I have 3 audible books by this author and started another one a year ago but had to stop due to the boring narrator but the two narrators that are reading this book were great.

Historia
Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.
Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

A lot to dislike about this book
Revisado: 08-08-20
I realize I’m in the minority but I know what I like and what I don’t. This book reads like a person who just writes whatever happens to come into her head or whatever happens to be in front of her at the time, be it a receipt, an airline ticket, an order form reciting every digit or dash. It’s extremely wordy to the extent that you forget what she’s talking about by the time she stops rattling on and gets to the point, The author could have left out the profanity and fifty percent of the wording and then possibly the book would have been better. She basically hates everyone in Seattle and possibly the whole state of California. The mother is an unlikable, narcissistic, unsociable person. The child was likable for the first half of the book but not so much the second half. The father comes off as a dullard who lives for Microsoft. The book is a cat fight. If you like that sort of thing then this book is for you

Great book
Revisado: 05-17-20
I read a review that said this book was boring. I found it to be just the opposite. It was very interesting and the 14 hr length just flew by while I was listening. I also really enjoyed the narration. There were a lot of characters but Robin Miles has a talent for giving each character their own voice. All in all, this was a great book!!

Interesting book about the civil war
Revisado: 05-09-20
My only complaint is that the narrator should have spoken with a southern accent, rather than a northern one, to make it more realistic. I felt the lack of a southern accent was a bit jarring at times, especially when she clipped the ending to most of her words. Other than that, the book held my interest and never lagged or bored me.

Historia
Georgia Chambers has spent her life sifting through other people's pasts while trying to forget her own. But then her work as an expert on fine china - especially Limoges - requires her to return to the one place she swore she'd never revisit. It's been 13 years since Georgia left her family home on the coast of Florida, and nothing much has changed except that there are fewer oysters and more tourists.

Boring
Revisado: 10-18-19
I struggled to get thru 6 hours of this book and when I realized I still had 10 more to go, I stopped listening. It’s akin to watching paint dry. This story drones on and on and I feel the narrator doesn’t add anything to help this story along.

This book started out good and was getting pretty interesting but then took a turn and became too ridiculous to finish. I have no desire to listen to the remaining 3+ hours in order to find out how it ends.
