Historia
Catherine Ling is one of the CIA’s most prized operatives. Raised on the unforgiving streets of Hong Kong, she was pulled into the agency at the age of 14, already having accumulated more insight and secrets than the most seasoned professionals in her world. If life has taught her anything, it is not to get attached, but there are two exceptions to that rule: Her son, Luke, and her mentor, Hu Chang.

Really bad
Revisado: 07-24-14
I've read many of her books, most pretty darn good. But this one is one over hyped cliche character after another - one utterly preposterous chain of impossible events after another. You cannot fly a helicopter from Hong Kong to Tibet. A guardian with unlimited wealth, skills, and no flaws! A woman who is beyond beautiful, unlimited deadly skills, a free lance CIA operative! Please Iris, this is beneath you. Nothing original, just endless cliches of impossibly perfect people.

A deranged young sociopath, one of the most bloodthirsty creations of a diseased society, Darryl has come to drag Baum along with him into an inescapable morass of terror and corruption.

Works too hard
Revisado: 04-06-11
I had to give up on this one, for now. Maybe I can pick it up later but the story moves at glacial pace and seems to be going nowhere. I cannot recommend this for anyone.

Great story
Revisado: 02-07-10
Even better narration. This book was extraordinarily well written. A great story with excellent character development and presentation. Not too predictable with a welcome assortment of twists and turns. The narration was superb. I looked forward to hearing each character. It was often hard to believe one person was doing all of the presentation. I have been listening to audio books when I travel for almost 10 years now. I can say without reservation this combination of story line, characters, gotchas and narration was the best so far. It is the only audio book i have listened to two times back to back. I'll give it another month and relish it again. For my money, on a scale of 1- 10, an easy 11.

Historia
The scent is unmistakable - gardenias, sweet and delicate, the same perfume that his beautiful first wife, Jennifer, always wore. Opening his eyes in the hospital room where he's recovering from an accident, New Orleans detective Rick Bentz sees her standing in the doorway. Then Jennifer blows him a kiss and disappears. But it couldn't have been Jennifer. She died 12 years ago....

This book is so poorly written I cannot finish listening to it. After half an hour, I started jumping chapters to find out if the writing improved. It did not. An endless string of words to fill up pages for scenes and dialogue that desperately need vitality and verisimilitude. And, each scene would be better told with about half of the words.
Internal dialogues a character has with him/herself that are so juvenile and cliched that I expected the characters to off themselves by eating too much peanut butter and jelly.
How this book ever got published in the first place, I cannot imagine. The narrators sound as if they are in a hurry up get to the end of the story. I can understand this as reading the entire manuscript must have been truly painful.
Do yourself a favor, take a pass on this one.
