Worst narration - ruined the story
Revisado: 11-19-24
Although I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this author’s books, the terrible performance of the reader made it impossible to finish this one. Stilted reading with the emphasis placed on entirely incorrect parts of the sentences and mispronunciation of basic words absolutely destroyed this book. I will actively avoid anything read by Ms Alexander in future.

Laughably juvenile
Revisado: 05-22-24
Ugh, this book is so poorly written that I can’t stand another five minutes. The ridiculously over-dramatic performance of the narrator just adds a new level of “cringe” to the dull lump of plot and endless exposition. Of this was turned in to a Writing 121 class it wouldn’t receive higher than a C.

Excellent!!!
Revisado: 02-15-23
I can usually spot the “plot twist” a mile away, but this one was fantastic! The story is gripping, the characters well-developed and the narration is excellent. You won’t be sorry you read/listened to this book.

Intriguing alternate history
Revisado: 01-10-23
As always, Scott Card’s storytelling is imaginative and immersive. Although not a story of suspense, I still found myself tensely anticipating the actions of his characters with bated breath more often than not. I can’t wait to start the next volume!

Terrible!
Revisado: 01-08-23
If this was written by a fifth-grader, it’s pretty good. The limited vocabulary, trite storyline and over-expositions are truly cringe-worthy. To make things worse, the narrator makes the protagonist sound like a whiny girl on the verge of tears all the time - and the elves have traditional TV Transylvanian canoe accents.

Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Masterful storytelling and spot-on narration.
Revisado: 01-08-23
Of course anything by Stephen King is going to be incredibly well written, but I admit I’m not a fan of horror and usually avoid his books. This book, however, was the perfect blend of fantasy, suspense and even whimsy. And the narration was the best I’ve encountered so far! Perfect character voices, no bad audible “habits” and neither too little or too much infection of drama. Just an all-around fantastic experience.

Terrible narrator, good story
Revisado: 12-31-22
I suffered through the overdramatizing of the narrator because the story line was actually far better than I expected. The narrator, however, is atrocious! Her overdone dramatics and CONSTANT gasping literally made me grind my teeth. If not for her I would have given this book 5 stars.

Historia
Benedict Fairburn does not quite need his ailing great-aunt's fortune, especially since he'll have to marry to get it. His family, however, thinks otherwise - as do many of the eligible ladies in London - and the pressure is mounting. An embarrassment of attentions fill Benny's time, but the young lady he prefers roundly dislikes him. Claire Dalton, cousin to one of Benedict's oldest friends, is too busy debuting in Society to pay much attention to the Fairburn boy who once insulted her past bearing.

Charming and well written
Revisado: 09-29-22
The narration is pleasant and engaging, as is the book itself. With just enough conflict and frustration to prevent it from being dull, this book manages to remain clean while avoiding the insipid heroines and fainting maidens so often stepped upon in this genre.

Tedius and hard to listen to
Revisado: 09-28-22
If the bland, repetitive story line wasn’t enough to deter me, seeing who was reading it should have. I can’t believe I slogged through most of this book before finally shutting it off and ending the teeth-grinding narration! Please don’t waste your time. So much potential for a good book in the idea, but the plot is severely underdeveloped and the narration (even sped up) makes me want to give up Audible forever. Ugh.

Historia
Humankind has explored every continent on earth, climbed its tallest mountains, and gone into space. But the largest areas of our planet remain a mystery: the deep oceans. At over 36,000 feet deep, these areas closest to earth’s core have remained nearly impossible to reach - until now. Technological innovations, engineering breakthroughs and the derring-do of a unique team of engineers and scientists, led by explorer Victor Vescovo, brought together an audacious global quest to dive to the deepest points of all five oceans for the first time in history.
