Would you try another book from Marshall Goldsmith and Mark Reiter and/or Marshall Goldsmith?

Definitely. Marshall has a depth of knowledge and experience not matched by many people in the business world.

Who do you think would benefit most from listening to Triggers?

Everyone because everyone knows how to change, but sometimes we need to hear it from someone such as Marshall to give us that extra push.

Any additional comments?

The majority of info contained in this book will seem like common sense to most people. As Marshall points out in the book, this is intended. If we all know how to change, then why don't we? Sometimes we need to hear it from another person (Marshall in this case) to give us the extra push we need.

I do enjoy the content, however I think this book could have been half as long. I caught myself drifting off countless times because of all the filler between the important points. Nonetheless, if you are looking to make some changes in your life, I do recommend you listen to this book.

Simple but profound keys to leadership mastery

What did you love best about Extreme Ownership?

The delivery. Giving both a related military story and a business story to emphasize each point made it easy to remember the important points. I find self help books are usually all over the place, but this one is so structurally organized I feel it stands above all other audiobooks I have listened to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jocko - The guy is the definition of an alpha male Navy SEAL bad ass. Fit, intimidating voice, intelligent and he screams leadership. He's also a black belt in brazilian jiu jitsu.

Which scene was your favorite?

The battle scene in Ramadi, Iraq in the "prioritize and execute" chapter. Great story telling that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When the idea of extreme ownership really hit me; probably when Jocko took all the blame for the blue-on-blue incident because he felt it was his responsibility as the leader in charge.

Any additional comments?

This book is everything it is cracked up to be and more. Great leadership principles that I will be integrating into my life as soon as possible.

Jocko's and Leif's narrations are incredible - I always find when the authors are the narrators it makes for a much more enjoyable listen.

Would you listen to Unbroken again? Why?

Yes! Such a captivating story that goes to show how insignificant our everyday problems are compared to that of POW from WWII.

What other book might you compare Unbroken to and why?

No other book comes close.

Which character – as performed by Edward Herrmann – was your favorite?

Pete. The caring brother who just wanted to see his brother happy and succeed.

An Unimaginable Journey of a WWII Bombadier

Greatest book I've listened to yet. Such an amazing story of Louis Zamparini who goes from Olympic track star to a POW in Japan's most brutal camps during WWII. This story will make you feel guilty for cursing the traffic on your way to work this morning, for complaining about the missing cream in your coffee you got at Tim Horton's and for all those little things that we allow to disrupt our day. The sub-title of the book is spot on as the words survival, resilience and redemption sum up Louis' journey flawlessly. Listen. To. This. Book. You won't regret it.

I haven't read anything else like this in the past.

What does Eben Alexander bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Since Eben does the reading himself, it adds that extra element of authenticity that you can't get from the book. The way he describes his experience can't be matched from reading words off a page.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

A reminder of how powerful an effect faith can have.

This is an amazing book - for both the religious and non-religious folk. Eben had his hands full trying to remove himself from religion when he wrote this book, but I think he has done an excellent job.

This book will make you reassess how you are living your life, showing how quickly it can change. It also makes you think about your purpose in life, making you ask if something is missing from your life.

My only complaint is with the last 6 or so chapters where Eben gets way to scientific and doesn't put it into layman's terms very well. I understand why he has done this (for the nay-sayers), but it really needs to be simplified for the average reader. If it wasn't for that, I'd have given it 5/5 stars.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and no. You need to take time to digest some of the information so taking more than a couple sessions to finish it is ideal.

Any additional comments?

This is a must read for anyone with strabismus; especially if you have had it since you were a baby. Susan explains the condition in an easy to understand manner and guides you through her transformation from seeing as a strabismic, to seeing in 3D. The journey she takes you on is worth the read in itself, even for someone who doesn't know what seeing with strabismus is like.

I have had esotropic strabismus for as long as I can remember (just like Susan) and have always been told by Optometrists and Ophthalmologists that I will never see in 3D. They have recommended surgery purely for cosmetic purposes and snark at the idea of vision therapy stating there is no scientific evidence that suggests it works. Susan touches on this topic and makes some very good points, especially for someone who is in "the business" herself.

This book gives people like me hope that perhaps there is a "cure" for long-time strabismus sufferers and that it is time the eye care professionals take a second look at vision therapy as that potential cure.
