Historia
Florence, the 1560s. Lucrezia, third daughter of Cosimo de' Medici, is free to wander the palazzo at will, wondering at its treasures and observing its clandestine workings. But when her older sister dies on the eve of marriage to Alfonso d'Este, ruler of Ferrara, Modena and Reggio, Lucrezia is thrust unwittingly into the limelight: the duke is quick to request her hand in marriage and her father to accept on her behalf.

Waste of a credit

Very disappointed by this book, one of the worst I read recently. Tte reader is very good but even she sort of gives up in the end…

Historia
To Paradise is a fin de siècle novel of marvelous literary effect, but above all it is a work of emotional genius. The great power of this remarkable novel is driven by Yanagihara’s understanding of the aching desire to protect those we love—partners, lovers, children, friends, family, and even our fellow citizens—and the pain that ensues when we cannot.

Wasted credit and brain space
Revisado: 03-07-22
I bought this book because I liked A Little Life, and thought that this one had to be at least okay. It is not.
I listened to the first part and kept thinking it could only get better.
I could not finish the second part.
I started the third part. It is very reminescent of Margaret Atwood. Why bother? I will listen to Oryx and Crake again.
Forget the wasted credit… I wish I could get the time I wasted on this back…

Historia
It begins with a simple ritual: Every Saturday afternoon, a boy who loves to cook walks to his grandmother’s house and helps her prepare a roast chicken for dinner. The grandmother is Swedish, a retired domestic. The boy is Ethiopian and adopted, and he will grow up to become the world-renowned chef Marcus Samuelsson. This book is his love letter to food and family in all its manifestations.

One of the best books I got through Audible
Revisado: 01-12-13
Would you consider the audio edition of Yes, Chef to be better than the print version?
I didn't read the print version, but hearing Marcus Samuelsson's voice and accent make his incredible life story very real.
What other book might you compare Yes, Chef to and why?
I don't know. This is a very well written memoir of an incredible life, told by the author. And I am not a foodie.
Have you listened to any of Marcus Samuelsson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, but now I really wish I could go to his restaurant!
Any additional comments?
I can't wait for the book to be translated in French so I can give it to all my friends in France.
