You’ve got a charming witch, a grumpy (yet tender) cop, a demon cat, a ghost horse, and a twisted story about fae creatures trying to assert dominion over human land. It was fun, entertaining, a little drawn out, but overall - I liked it. 3.5 stars.

I’m in my cozy mystery era and I’m thriving! This was terrific. Sassy, charming, and fun with a good “Jessica fletcher-esque” small town crime. It’s incredible how many people can die 😅

Poppy is sassy. The murder mystery was fine. The puns were worth it. And the whole glimpse into the tech world was accurate.

I knew nothing about this true crime case. This was a full immersive experience that ended with me in tears. The investigative journalism was thorough while still maintaining everyone’s humanity.

I wouldn’t be mad if this became a series closing all the cold cases! Just saying!

EHHHH. This wasn't for me. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3.

Have you ever just read a book and gone: “something seems off”?? 🤔 And after you stepped away from it for a bit you realized that the progression or cadence of the book just didn’t work for you? That’s how I felt about All The Missing Girls.

I wasn’t that displeased with the actual storyline (though the character development was a bit weak in my opinion), but mainly, I just didn’t like how the storyline was presented to me (the whole book occurs in a backwards sequence). 😐 You see, I’m TOTALLY A FAN of the flashback or “all told from a memory” vibe in books. But when a plot is completely told backward (day 14 to day 1) then I instantly compare it to Memento and those are some big shoes to fill. 😬

There was something so anticlimactic about knowing everything before it began because you had lived the previous day already. And because of that, you have to rehear all the facts which just became repetitive. Yeah... this didn't do it for me.

Zachary Quinto - for the win! The story - not so much

First off, ummmm... Zachary Quinto! Yes, please. He can narrate all the books for me from this point on!

As far as the story goes - it's intriguing. It's this weird polar reality where no one ever dies by murder because there's this method to restore their previous lives. And that's where the Dispatcher comes into play. Their job is to provide that victim with a second chance - in hopes that they avoid death. But the more interesting part of the storyline was when fellow dispatcher, Jimmy, goes missing. But this was also the weakness.

I guess I just wish there was more mystery behind what happened to Jimmy. I know that 2 hours doesn't leave much room for exploration - but was that intentional? I dunno. I felt stifled by the lack of depth within this subplot.

Body in Cat Litter?! Billy Jensen has seen it all!

I live for true crime and so when Billy Jensen (friends with Karen and Georgia from MFM and he helped finish Michelle McNamara’s book) came out with his own book, I was all over it!

Jensen is an incredible storyteller and his road to becoming an investigative journalist is pretty cool. Chase Darkness with Me is an autobiographical view into Jensen’s start. He shares personal stories from his upbringing, his college years, and how he became anadvocate for cold case victims. 🧡Some of the cases he’s been a part of are surreal! Like the one about a body being covered in a mountain of cat 🐈 litter (I’m not joking 💩). It’s nuts. And this tell-all isn’t holding back!!

It’s only available on audio 🎧 right now. And I would definitely recommend this to any My Favorite Murder listener! 🔪

NOTE: if you have listened to Jensen’s and Paul Holes’ podcast The Murder Squad, some of this book will sound repetitive. At first, I was like “wahhhh 😫” because I’m a brat. But then I had to applaud Jensen because these are the cases that truly cultivated his drive and the fact that he’s getting answers for so many families is FREAKING RAD! 👏🏽
