Historia
The Carryx—part empire, part hive—has waged wars of conquest for centuries, destroying or enslaving species across the galaxy in its conflict with an ancient and deathless enemy. When they descend on the isolated world of Anjiin, the human population is abased, slaughtered, and put in chains. The best and brightest are abducted, taken to the Carryx world-palace to join prisoners from a thousand other species. Dafyd Alkhor, assistant to a prestigious scientist, is captured along with his team.

I liked how the alien invasion happened quickly in the story telling. We spend most of the book following a group of abductees trying to figure the rules of the new alien planet city environment. Their lives and that of humanity depend on it. Assuming humanity still exist.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Not my cup of tea
Revisado: 04-06-24
I love science fiction. My favorite by this author so far is Hail Mary. He's a good writer. But this book is organized crime on the moon. I'm not into gangsters. If you are, you'll likely like the book.

Historia
The man on the moon was dead. They called him Charlie. He had big eyes, abundant body hair, and fairly long nostrils. His skeletal body was found clad in a bright red spacesuit, hidden in a rocky grave. They didn’t know who he was, how he got there, or what had killed him. All they knew was that his corpse was 50 thousand years old - and that meant this man had somehow lived long before he ever could have existed.

Where's the plot?
Revisado: 04-12-20
This book is simple to summarize. Deep thinking. I wanted to like it but there was no plot. It's mainly narration of a bunch of researchers trying to figure out a mystery. Halfway through I put it down and haven't touched it since.

Historia
The Earth is changing. The alien invasion brought social upheaval, advanced technology, and an armada of peacekeeping robots. But Alan, a college student pursuing a now-useless degree, cares little about all of this. He has only one thing on his mind: the Game. A fully immersive virtual reality, the Game appears to be a major part of the invading civilization. Alan can't wait to play, recklessly diving into the digital universe. Soon though, Alan realizes the Game is anything but simple, and the stakes are higher than he ever imagined.

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Historia
Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

Where does The Collapsing Empire rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is the best book I have read since Ready Player One (not Scalzi). Scalzi is a talented author. I hope he keeps putting out more books for many many more years to come.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Collapsing Empire?
I like the palace intrigue. There was plenty of action. I little snark. And Wil Wheaton swearing through half of the book was very amusing. Frankly, there was nothing not to like about this book.
Which character – as performed by Wil Wheaton – was your favorite?
I liked all of the characters. At no time was I bored listening to this book.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I could have listened to it in one sitting but I prefer to do my audible book while I commute. Granted books like this make me unhappy once I arrive at work, because I have to turn it off.
Any additional comments?
I am already telling my friends that this is a must read.

Terrific
Revisado: 06-17-16
Would you listen to Ready Player One again? Why?
Yes. It is a great book and Will Wheaton's performance is stellar. It is the best book I have read in a lomng time.
What other book might you compare Ready Player One to and why?
Willy Wonka meet World of Warcraft. This book is edgy and intelligent. The story felt fresh and new. It overflows with interesting trivia.
What does Wil Wheaton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Brilliant. His voice fits the main character who is a teenager. Will's reading is enthusiastic. His dramatization f the different characters is the best I have listened to.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed. I was surprised a couple of times. When the bad things start happening, I couldn't put the book down.

Weak and slow moving story
Revisado: 03-27-12
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
It needed to be faster paced with real conflict. Everybody were too accomodating of each other. There was very little suspense. Most of the dialog was on the level of gossip. This just wasn't in the same class as the
Would you ever listen to anything by Joe Haldeman again?
Forever War is one of the best Sci Fi books out there.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The narrator did an OK job. Her performance matched the charactor.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
There were no moments in the book I can offer as particularly interesting.

Historia
This stand-alone work is widely regarded as Asimov's best science fiction novel. Andrew Harlan is an Eternal, a member of the elite of the future. One of the few who live in Eternity, a location outside of place and time, Harlan's job is to create carefully controlled and enacted Reality Changes. These Changes are small, exactingly calculated shifts in the course of history, made for the benefit of humankind. Though each Change has been made for the greater good, there are also always costs....
