Historia
Putting history into a perspective, Irish History for Dummies is an engaging, entertaining and educational trip through time, packing in equal parts fun and facts, providing listeners with a riveting history of this ancient land. The history of Ireland has shaped the world far beyond its borders. And few stories have a greater need for a balanced and light-hearted telling than the complex and often controversial saga of Ireland and her people.

New appreciation for Ireland, current and historic!
Revisado: 04-28-25
So many struggles, hardships, politics, invaders, and a story of persistence over thousands of years. This book gives me a much better appreciation of Ireland, England, and the many my countries and cultures that have taken an interest in Ireland. I feel much better prepared to visit Ireland this summer. Thanks to this book.

Riveting with complex story line.
Revisado: 03-26-25
Another one of David‘s page turners. I enjoy the character development from this author and also the detailed descriptions of the good guys and bad guy organizations. I found the mood music the end of each chapter to be a little bit too much, but I appreciated the attempts to deepen the feelings that went along with the tension in the story.

Always good to get the basics and the facts even when you think you know more than what the book will present. This is a wide ranging foundation to science of artificial intelligence and worth the read. It was hard to listen to it for so many hours, but the variety of information was fun

Historia
“Here’s Johnny!” Probably everyone in America knows the phrase, whether they watched every episode of The Tonight Show or none because they had to go to bed early on school nights. From 1962 to 1992, Johnny Carson and his Tonight Show dominated the American consciousness. Henry Bushkin was Carson’s best friend and lawyer during that period, and his book is a tautly rendered and remarkably nuanced portrait of Carson, revealing not only how he truly was, but why.

He also does a nice job of telling a good story and sharing a lot of facts that make it interesting without being controversial. I gained many insights into Johnny Carson and network television during his era.

Historia
Why do Israelis have among the world’s highest life expectancies and lowest rates of “deaths of despair” from suicide and substance abuse? Why is Israel’s population young and growing while all other wealthy democracies are aging and shrinking? How can it be that Israel, according to a United Nations ranking, is the fourth happiest nation in the world? Why do Israelis tend to look to the future with hope, optimism, and purpose while the rest of the West struggles with an epidemic of loneliness, teen depression, and social decline?

Author is a great story teller…and hermits have a lot of wisdom to share!
Revisado: 06-11-24
Really enjoyed listening to Ken Smith, recount his stories growing up, as a young adult, his traumatic experiences that he survived, and then his 40 years living off of the woods and lakes in Canada, Alaska, and mostly in Scotland. I learned a lot of practical as well as philosophical knowledge from listening to this author, I also enjoyed his stories which not being a hermit, I’ll probably never experience firsthand myself. After reading his book, as attractive as his life sounds, now I don’t need to live it. I hope I can live some of the wisdom that Kim Smith imparts to his readers.

My third book by this author and I’m becoming a big fan. Enjoy his elaborate plot lines, character development, pacing, and intimate knowledge of the many topics he tackles. Always heart thumping, except when heart melting. Performance is solid…though would enjoy a female voice for female roles. Male Voices are well done.
