Historia
For much of the 20th and 21st centuries, women’s sexuality was an uncharted territory in science, studied far less frequently - and far less seriously - than its male counterpart. That is, until Emily Nagoski’s Come As You Are, which used groundbreaking science and research to prove that the most important factor in creating and sustaining a sex life filled with confidence and joy is not what the parts are or how they’re organized but how you feel about them.

Extremely Helpful Book!
Revisado: 06-26-22
I follow Alex on Instagram and find her account incredibly inspiring. Like most women I’ve struggled with my body image since I was a teenager and this book had an immensely powerful impact on my body image. I stopped to cry a few times during the book because I realized that I didn’t have to hate my body all these years and what a waste of time it was to send so much hatred towards myself. I want to recommend this book to everyone I know. It’s a great intro to body positivity and body acceptance for anyone looking to get started on changing their body image. Thank you Alex for gifting this to the world!

Historia
After decades of research, world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol S. Dweck discovered a simple but groundbreaking idea: the power of mindset. In this brilliant book, she describes how success in school, work, sports, the arts, and almost every area of human endeavor can be dramatically influenced by how we think about our talents and abilities. In this edition, Dweck offers new insights into her now famous and broadly embraced concept. She introduces a phenomenon she calls false growth mindset and guides people toward adopting a deeper, truer growth mindset.

Historia
Gretchen Rubin had an epiphany one rainy afternoon in the unlikeliest of places: a city bus. "The days are long, but the years are short," she realized. "Time is passing, and I'm not focusing enough on the things that really matter." In that moment, she decided to dedicate a year to her happiness project.

Read With Caution
Revisado: 04-26-22
Make sure to read this book with caution. As a trained therapist I found a lot of toxic and unhelpful messages in her thoughts, ideas, and lifestyle. Make sure to take everything she says with a grain of salt and remember that she is not an expert on happiness as she has no formal clinical training, research, or expertise on happiness. She has simply read a lot about happiness and decided to write a book about it, so please read her book with a critical eye.
That being said I liked the idea of the book and I think everyone should start their own happiness project. We could all use some more joy in our lives and if this book inspires people to make some positive changes in their lives then it is worth the read. My only suggestion is that if you start on this journey please see a therapist or an expert on happiness to ensure that you are doing things that actually bring joy and will not be counterproductive towards your happiness goals.

Historia
Bea Schumacher is a devastatingly stylish plus-size fashion blogger who has amazing friends, a devoted family, legions of Insta followers—and a massively broken heart. Like the rest of America, Bea indulges in her weekly obsession: the hit reality show Main Squeeze. The fantasy dates! The kiss-off rejections! The surprising amount of guys named Chad! But Bea is sick and tired of the lack of body diversity on the show. Since when is being a size zero a prerequisite for getting engaged on television?

A lot of potential but it fell short for me
Revisado: 09-01-21
I bought this book because I thought it had a lot of potential to be very body positive and help me shift perspectives. However this book felt unrealistic and insecure. It seems like the author projected all her insecurities about her body, and her worst fears about what would happen if a big girl tried to date hot men. I didn’t feel connected to the main character at all and felt that she never truly learned to embrace her body and power. I was disappointed because this book had a lot of potential but it was a bit of a let down.
