I thought I would really enjoy figuring out what was going on by reading emails, news flashes, and web page bits. I did until about halfway through. Perhaps I am impatient, as I read a lot of science fiction and YA fiction. I do really enjoy Amber Benson’s voices. But I do declare after the halfway mark, I really felt as if I were on that island for eight days as well! PS There really are no islands other than Dauphin island in the Gulf near the Alabama coast. Mississippi has some. Anyway, great storyline. However, the whole thing seems as though it will wrap up, but it goes off in another direction. Perhaps that’s what the author meant to do! Still, I didn’t get why Luis was there, or Ty Townes. I guess Townes was a red herring. I may read or listen again. Maybe I didn’t read it slowly enough. Either that or I got so distracted by the valley girl that I zoned out. Still, I have pre-ordered Archer’s new book which has nothing to do with Davis Way.

I realize the protagonist found out tragic things, but if I wanted Jodi Picoult I would have gotten it. Very little humor is in this book and I am partial to Jana Deleon and Janet Evanovich. Also, some of the details of the investigation don’t follow any rules. Why is she able to sleep in the murder house? It would be cordoned off until investigation was done. Also, her bail was never set so she goes about her business despite that. Also, her lawyer is not very hands-on and only spoke with her twice. I couldn’t get past chapter 18.

I didn’t realize this was a dark mystery. The sample didn’t prepare me. The little I read was well-written, but just not to my taste.

I am in the mood for humor right now. The first three chapters didn’t deliver. Maybe another time when I am less in need of funny to balance the stress. It is well written and the characters are 3-dimensional. I just really wanted to laugh out loud.

First of all, I love Julie Andrews and have since my mother drove my sister and me 150 miles to see The Sound of Music. What amazes me the most about her life is how jam-packed it has been and still is. Also, I had no idea of the trials that her entire family put her through. She accepted the role of caretaker and then added to it with Blake Edwards' kids and their adopted daughters. Andrews' family always had something major going on while she was trying to work to support everyone. I think she and Emma - and maybe Jennifer Edwards - were the only sane ones in the bunch! Though she made several films with her husband Blake that I did not enjoy, I understood why she made them. I still mostly enjoy the classics and really got into the details about how they were made. I look forward to her explaining about losing her voice after Victor/Victoria on Broadway. But with her ebullient spirit, she rallied and still works in the industry. Lucky are those who get to work alongside her. I'm here panting until she gets the third book done!

This book was well constructed, weaving fictional history with fictional present. It gave a good background to which is referred in previous books. This book is much more serious than the previous ones. Perhaps because of these politically charged times, I felt as though I were reading a commentary on2020-2021. This is not necessarily a negative thing, unless like me one is looking for a break from all that. I confess I tired of it and skimmed the last 2-3 chapters.

What I didn’t like could fill a page. Too much time spent on unimportant characters, main character not really involved until after chapter 3, silly or unconvincing plot points. Basically, I couldn’t care less than I already do. Try again; you have a great imagination. It just needs some discipline.

Yep, I said it. I really almost went to sleep several times listening to this book. I do love an upper class British man’s accent, but the excellent performance of the narrator could not keep my interest. Anyone with an interest in Celtic and Viking history of the UK would love it, but it left me cold. I did wonder how all those people can just sit about all day, but then 1921 was before there was a true middle class in Great Britain. History buff? Go for it. Not so much? Give it a pass. I gave it two because the grammar is impeccable. That’s rare these days.

I really enjoyed all the way until the 29th chapter. I got tired of the mooning over Michael and the lack of anything resolving in the case. I think I’m getting impatient now that I’m sixty. I probably will try the next one but will get it on Kindle so I can read the slow parts more quickly.
