Historia
After Miller's father dies, she agrees to a girls' vacation away from the city to reconnect with the only family she has left. Although she’s eager to make things work, Miller can’t help but worry that her mother is seeing their countryside retreat as a fun weekend getaway instead of what it really is: a last-ditch effort to repair their relationship.

Couldn't get past the stupidity of the protagonist...
Revisado: 08-06-24
The book always loses me when it requires the protagonist to be a complete and utter moron to put things in motion.

Historia
History has lied. Anne Boleyn has been sold to us as a dark figure, a scheming seductress who bewitched Henry VIII into divorcing his queen and his church in an unprecedented display of passion. Quite the tragic love story, right? Wrong. In this electrifying exposé, Hayley Nolan explores for the first time the full, uncensored evidence of Anne Boleyn’s life and relationship with Henry VIII, revealing the shocking suppression of a powerful woman.

If like me, you have been craving an account of Anne Boleyn's life that is blessedly free of overwrought romantic sentiments, give this one a chance! You won't be disappointed.

Historia
It is the morning of the reaping that will kick off the 10th annual Hunger Games. In the Capitol, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games. The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to out charm, outwit, and outmaneuver his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute. The odds are against him. He’s been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low.

The Narrator was the perfect choice for this book!
Revisado: 09-09-21
*Contains Spoilers *
I truly feel that the narrator did an amazing job when you take into consideration that this book is told from Snow's point of view. Snow looks down on music to the point where it evolves into a genuine hatred by the end of the book, so of course when he recalls a song it's going to be dripping with contempt and sarcasm. That's the point.
The narrator for the Hunger Games did an amazing job because she embodied the empathy and complexity of Katniss's character. The narrator for this book did an amazing job because he embodied the complexity and burgeoning ruthlessness of Snow.
We as readers rarely get to read a villan's backstory that doesn't contain a redemption arc somewhere along the way . The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes does no such thing. Snow's ruthless actions get rewarded in a major way at the end of the book and the reader is left with with the haunting knowledge that Snow's descent into utter cutthroat depravity is just getting started.
I also must admit that I am a sucker for female identified characters that are written as three-dimensional complex beings and this book is chock full of them!

Historia
This is how wars are fought now by children, hopped up on drugs, and wielding AK-47s. In the more than fifty violent conflicts going on worldwide, it is estimated that there are some 300,000 child soldiers. Ishmael Beah used to be one of them. How does one become a killer? How does one stop? Child soldiers have been profiled by journalists, and novelists have struggled to imagine their lives. But it is rare to find a first-person account from someone who endured this hell and survived.
