Historia
Burri is a fashion designer and icon with a biochemistry background. Her latest pieces are African inspired and crafted to touch the heart. They enable wearers to absorb nanorobotic memories and recount the stories of Black lives and forgiveness. Wenda doesn’t buy it. A protest performance artist, Wenda knows exploitation when she sees it. What she’s going to do with Burri’s breakthrough technology could, in the right hands, change race relations forever.

Historia
In his attempt to delay his appearance in Emperor's court, Crown Prince Georg triggers an alien invasion of his own star system. The whole of the Empire watches the live broadcast with bated breath as his fleet battles the awesome invaders. The Iseyeks - gigantic sentient praying mantises - are suitably impressed too, so they promptly remind the Crown Prince of his allied duties. The Sector Eight Fleet hurries to the Swarm's aid...but sadly disregards the insects' hive mentality.

I like the character development and interaction. Mostly I like Atamanov’s writing. I’d read bubble gum wrappers if he wrote them.

The construction of the world's first truly accurate clock starts a race against, well, time. For if the perfect clock starts ticking, Time, as we know it, will stop. And then the trouble will really begin. Subtle, sly, thought-provoking, and hilarious, Thief of Time is Terry Pratchett at his best. "This delightful production keeps the listener spellbound," says AudioFile.

Narration
Revisado: 02-06-23
I prefer the original narrator. These are several great narrators, but Sir Terry Pratchett’s works should be read by Stephen Briggs or Nigel Planer. I can’t accept anyone else. And I want the original version of Carpe Jugulum returned to my audible library. Talk about a thief of time.

Historia
In 1945, after his capture at the end of the Second World War, Hermann Göring arrived at an American-run detention center in war-torn Luxembourg, accompanied by 16 suitcases and a red hatbox. The suitcases contained all manner of paraphernalia: medals, gems, two cigar cutters, silk underwear, a hot water bottle, and the equivalent of $100,000,000 in cash. Hidden in a coffee can, a set of brass vials housed glass capsules containing a clear liquid and a white precipitate: potassium cyanide. Joining Göring in the detention center were the elite of the captured Nazi regime....

Fascinating study
Revisado: 11-11-18
This exposition of the notes of the psychiatrist who treated Göring in prison provides a unique perspective on an important piece of the puzzle that is world history. At some cost to himself, the doctor sought to understand what made the man tick. Was the engineer of the holocaust insane? Was he evil? I did not come away with a clear answer, probably because there is no answer. I am glad, however, to have taken the journey. #realhistory #Holocaust #motivation

Historia
Can literature change our real world society? At its foundation, utopian and dystopian fiction asks a few seemingly simple questions aimed at doing just that. Who are we as a society? Who do we want to be? Who are we afraid we might become? When these questions are framed in the speculative versions of Heaven and Hell on earth, you won't find easy answers, but you will find tremendously insightful and often entertaining perspectives.

Great topic well presented
Revisado: 11-11-18
Dystopian fiction is my favorite genre, and this lecture series introduced me to many new and old titles that I went on to explore. It also gave me an appreciation for utopian fiction, helping me see that the two genres are not far apart. Best takeaways: Amatka by Karin Tidbeck and We by Yevgeny Zamyatin, two extraordinary books I never would have found without this lecture series. #informative #eyeopening #literaturesurvey

Awesomely original
Revisado: 11-11-18
The book exceeded the movie, but it was still an exceptional movie. The characters are entirely believable and relatable. It is thoroughly day after tomorrow. Alexandra Bracken has great skill at verisimilitude. Her descriptions draw the reader into the story, painting a picture that seems familiar but telling a story that has not been told. The tightrope of -I know this place and these people- against -I have never heard of this- is truly compelling. #dayaftertomorrow #dystopia #compelling

A great start
Revisado: 11-11-18
Sujata Massey gives us a detective story set in India in the time before women could be lawyers. The story of a murder mystery in the home of cloistered Muslim widows exposes the reader to unusual customs and a different way of life. Wonderfully narrated by Soneela Nankani, this tale draws the reader squarely into another time and place. I hope this detective will have more adventures. She could be the next Maisie Dobbs. #amateursleuth #india #strongfemalelead

An accessible read on a tough subject
Revisado: 11-11-18
On top of all the other challenges of being a teenager, Amanda used to be Andrew. This story shares the fears, struggles and real danger of growing up in a body that does not conform with your gender identity. Even with parents who make every effort to accept and understand, it is an uphill battle. Meredith Russo helps the reader step into the shoes of this young woman. Hopefully readers will see the lesson that people are people and that acceptance is free and priceless. More rights for trans people does not mean less rights for you- it is not pie. #LGBTQ #verisimilitude #braveworld

Historia
Jeanne Wakatsuki was seven years old in 1942 when her family was uprooted from their home and sent to live at Manzanar internment camp - with 10,000 other Japanese Americans. Along with searchlight towers and armed guards, Manzanar ludicrously featured cheerleaders, Boy Scouts, sock hops, baton-twirling lessons, and a dance band called the Jive Bombers who would play any popular song except the nation's number-one hit: "Don't Fence Me In".
Farewell to Manzanar is the true story of one spirited Japanese-American family's attempt to survive the indignities of forced detention.

Know history or repeat it
Revisado: 11-11-18
This historical account of American internment camps for Japanese American citizens sugarcoats nothing. A report on one of the most shameful instances of American history, this book underscores the danger of rabid nationalism and bigotry. The perspective is unique because the author was only a child at the time. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. This book should be required reading for high school or even middle grade students. #neverforget #internment #history
