I can't help it, there's one character whose voice can only be produced by Gary Oldman or Sean Barrett.

If you dont know his stuff at all, well... I'm jealous of all your future discoveries. He has made self-examination into musical comedy theatre since he was a kid. The younger he was at the time, obviously the lessature the humour, but the talent, the blending of satire with sincerity and the weird combination of quite revealing introspection with deliberate alienation of the audience, the highlighting of the necessary fakeness of stage personas and rhe commercial nature of parasocial relationships has always been there. And whatever he says, you don't have to be 13 to admire all that.

I thought it would lose something in being an audiobook, but of course, Bo Burnham, reading it himself, adds comedy in those spaces, and you end up with a double bonus. The only downside to this audiobook is that if you listen to it in the bath you will drench your phone skipping back to hear things again with wet slippy fingers.

Great bit of silly fun for Gaiman fans

I don't know if it's much fun if you're not into Gaiman's work, it might feel a bit like being in a conversation about people you don't know. But I'm a fan so for me it's like having a stranger make all the best in-jokes about all your best mates. it's a decent story but obviously also it's a fandom vehicle for Neil Himself to tickle us with a generous helping of references and name-drops.

it's not as funny as the podcast (still funny though) and it's not going to educate you on the depths of feminist theory. I think that's exactly the point. it's about how feminism and daily life can get together and get along. Most specifically, it's about how you can be a (better?) feminist without giving up romcoms, makeup... husbands..etc. unless you prefer to. you don't have to stop being you and become a feminist: this is about how to be better at being yourself. It's a feminist thing to do.
